I have a Gaggia Classic with a commercial portafilter and have been using a modified Krupps burr grinder with mediocre results. Will the Gaggia MM grind beans fine enough for good shots or do I need to spend more money? My usual drink is three shots over ice and I've been using Starbucks espresso beans. Thanks, Sean

A A Sean,
If you are using the pressurized filter basket, then the MM would be OK to use. If you are planning on using the commercial style basket, I would recommend stepping up the the MDF or the Baratza Virtuoso.

I have had the gaggia MM grinder for about a year. It is now having trouble feeding the beans to the grinder. Is it the size of the bean? I cleaned out the gummed up mess at the exit, but that didn't make a difference. If I empty the beans and then re-add them it will grind a few and then no more will make it to the grinder.

mjackson ♦ Mickey,

Are using a flavored bean or a rally dark roasted coffee. YOU need to clean a lot if you are doing that. This product will help a lot - http://www.wholelattelove.com/Urnex/grindz_box.cfm. That should help keep your grinder clean. If using a flavored bean it will be really hard to keep clean.

I just received my Gaggia MM yesterday from you, and it appears to work o'k. However, I use both expresso and drip grind, with most of it being drip. All 9 settings appear to be expresso, with no discernable difference between the settings. The product details on your website said the grinder settings were adjustable, but no instructions came with the grinder. Can you tell me how to adjust it so I can get both expresso and drip grind from the grinder?

Whole Latte Love Staff You have 9 different levels of fineness that may be hard to distingush between them via the naked eye, but your espresso machine will certainly know the difference.  As for drip coffee you want to turn the hopper to a larger number for a coarser grind - I would suspect level 9 would be your best bet.  It could be finer then you are used too for drip coffee, but if you use good quality beans you can use less coffee then normal and actually yield a better brew. If you need the coffee a little more coarse you can give out tech department a call and they can help you calibrate it over the phone.
