Sometimes I make a very nice single shot espresso but when I try to make a second one, no coffee/liquid will come through the filter. I have tamped the coffee exactly the same as the first time, but no coffee!! If I put the filter on without coffee in it, still no water will go through. If I let it dry for hours/days, it will usually work the next time. As the manual suggested, I took the filter apart and cleaned it and reassembled and the problem keeps happening sporadically. It is very unpredictable and doesn't happen every time. It is causing me to waste lots of coffee and get very frustrated. Advice for the newbie??

mjackson ♦ Robyn,

The only solution I have heard of is to try running steam out of the machine before brewing a 2nd shot.

Hello! Does anyone know why water would stay pooled in my portafilter after I've pulled a shot? It just drips and drips; the puck is never anything remotely close to dry. In fact, it's pretty much pure liquid. I've cleaned and descaled everything I can think of, to no avail.

This is my first question to you guys, so sorry if it's been asked before. If so, I can't find the answer.

Thank you.
Katie

mjackson ♦ Katie,

I don't think the cleaning is the problem. I do think it could be how much coffee you put in the filter, you may not have enough. It most likely is your grind it could be to coarse. The machine will work well. Try more coffee and a finer grind. Try and time your shot and see if is coming out to fast. It should take about 25 seconds. Also you may want to weigh your coffee and see how much coffee you are using. For a double shot I would suggest about 16 grams. I hope this helps and keep trying it should all come together with some experimentation.

katie sommer Mark, thank you so much for the suggestions and feedback. I have a lot to learn because it seems counter intuitive to me to use *more* coffee at a *finer* grind to get a dryer puck. But I'll totally try it (I'll try anything)! One question--when you say 25 seconds, do you mean before the espresso comes out, or when the espresso is coming out? Thank you so much again. This is an awesome resource to ask appliance-specific questions.

I'm trying to replicate the Starbucks Chai Latte for my wife, she loves them. I have the concentrate from starbucks, but I'm at a loss on how to prepare the milk. I think I have to use the frothing cup, but I'm not really sure. How can I use this machine to make Chai Latte's? I'm pretty sure I have to steam the milk, but that is the extent of my knowledge. Do I really need this machine to just make Chai Latte's? Is there another way to steam milk without buying an espresso machine?

Mike Russo ♦ Brain...You can use either the Nespresso Aero or the Nespresso Aeroccino to froth and steam your milk. Thanks and happy brewing.

I purchased this pump driven espresso/cappuccino make for my daughter for Christmas and it did not come with the coffee pod tool. Is it possible to purchase one and can it be used with this machine? I have one and use it all the time.
Thanks, Elaine

WholeLatteLoveS S Did your machine come with two filter holders? If so the larger is for a double shot, the smaller is for a single shot and pods. If you do not have the smaller basket, you can call Delonghi for a replacement, as we do not carry Delonghi parts. You can call them at 800-322-3848
