mjackson ♦ Gary,
The Encore will be replacing the Maestro Plus. It has a newer set of burrs. It also will allow you to grind a better espresso then the Maestro. It also has a better gear box which is quieter ,wears better and is more shock resistant. It is a nicer grinder at the same price.

Does this grinder have a setting fine enough for espresso? I have a Gaggia Baby class and need to up grade my grinder to get the crema from this machine. I just want to know if this grinder will meet these requirements.

Thanks David

Mike Russo ♦ David...Thank you for your interest in the Baratza Maestro Plus. Honestly this grinder will not give you the results you are looking for, because it does not have the commercial grade conical burrs. I suggest you purchase either the Baratza Virtuoso or the Baratza Virtuoso Preciso instead. Both of these grinders have the commercial grade burrs and Preciso has a larger number of grind settings. I hope this information helps, however if you have anymore questions please feel free to contact us directly at 1-888-411-5282 option 1. Thanks.

mjackson ♦ heather,

Thanks for the great question and happy to hear about you brewing that way as it makes a great cup of coffee. This grinder would indeed work very well. It does a great job with French Press and drip grinds. I think as far as value goes and price for your purpose this is the right grinder for you.

What's the primary difference between the Maestro Plus and the Virtuoso (besides ~70 bucks)?

Mike Russo ♦ Steven...Thank you for your interest in the Baratza grinder. While both grinders use the same 40 mm burrs and 160 watt motor turning at 450 rpms, here are some differences between the two grinders. The Virtuoso's housing is a combination of heavy ABS plastic, with a Nickel plated metal top and base. While the Masetro Plus housing is constructed of all heavy duty ABS plastic. The Maestro Plus weighs 7 pounds and the Virtuoso weighs 8 pounds. If you have any more questions please feel free to contact us again on the Super Wall or call us directly at 1-888-411-5282 option 3. Thanks.
