The Encore will be replacing the Maestro Plus. It has a newer set of burrs. It also will allow you to grind a better espresso then the Maestro. It also has a better gear box which is quieter ,wears better and is more shock resistant. It is a nicer grinder at the same price.

Michael Rosso ♦ David...Thank you for your interest in the Baratza Maestro Plus. Honestly this grinder will not give you the results you are looking for, because it does not have the commercial grade conical burrs. I suggest you purchase either the Baratza Virtuoso or the Baratza Virtuoso Preciso instead. Both of these grinders have the commercial grade burrs and Preciso has a larger number of grind settings. Thanks for the great question and happy to hear about you brewing that way as it makes a great cup of coffee. This grinder would indeed work very well. It does a great job with French Press and drip grinds. I think as far as value goes and price for your purpose this is the right grinder for you.

While both grinders use the same 40 mm burrs and 160 watt motor turning at 450 rpms, here are some differences between the two grinders. The Virtuoso's housing is a combination of heavy ABS plastic, with a Nickel plated metal top and base. While the Masetro Plus housing is constructed of all heavy duty ABS plastic. The Maestro Plus weighs 7 pounds and the Virtuoso weighs 8 pounds.
