Expert Answers From The Whole Latte Love Spot

Q: I am thinking about upgrading from my entry level machine (Gaggia Carezza). I was wooed a little by the super automatics, but the Gaggia Baby Twin seems like a real nice machine, and I do enjoy the brewing process. What do you think of the Baby Twin?

A: The super automatics can woo you (and rightfully so), but if you enjoy the brewing process, the Gaggia Baby Twin would be a good step up for you. It has a dual boiler with rapid steam, allowing you to go straight from brewing your shot to frothing/steaming your milk. It is also equipped with touch sensitive buttons for easy programming.

Product Spotlight: Baratza Virtuoso Preciso

Ceado E10 and E7 GrindersThe coffee community has been anxiously awaiting the Baratza Virtuoso Preciso for over a year. Now that the Preciso has arrived, it certainly will not disappoint.

The Virtuoso has been a wildly popular home grinder for quite some time, garnering high praise for its reliability, efficient operation and compact frame. But if espresso lovers had one gripe, it would be the grinder's lack of micro adjustments. While the 40 standard grind settings are more than adequate for most people, there are some people who desire greater control over their grind. The Virtuoso Preciso is made to cater to them. Along with the 40 macro settings, the Preciso offers an additional 11 micro settings. Each micro range is equal to one macro setting, so you'll be able to fine-tune your grind to get exactly what you need, coarser for French Press or finer for espresso....

Coffee Spotlight: Lavazza Tierra

Lavazza Tierra and Tierra Intenso CoffeesLuigi Lavazza, founder of Italy’s #1 coffee brand, famously proclaimed, "I will not live in a world that destroys the riches of nature!" Since its inception, Lavazza has strived to conduct business with socially, environmentally and culturally friendly practices. The company is a strong global proponent of sustainable development, holding itself and suppliers up to high standards throughout the production process. Lavazza has also teamed up with a number of nonprofit organizations including: Save the Children, International Coffee Partners and the Rainforest Alliance.

In 2004, Lavazza launched the Tierra Project, which engaged farming communities from Columbia, Peru and Honduras as well as the Rainforest Alliance to create environmentally friendly and socially responsible coffee.

The first of these coffees, Lavazza Tierra, is a medium-bodied, 100% Arabica coffee with sweet floral notes, fruity flavors and a pleasing aroma. It is particularly well suited for lattes and cappuccinos but can also be enjoyed as an espresso or drip coffee.

In contrast, Lavazza Tierra Intenso features strong chocolate flavors and a rich aroma. It is well liked by the Whole Latte Love sales team because of its ability to deliver remarkable drip coffee....
