In reading about how to make espresso and how to maintain my machine I read that I should use a high quality carbon filter to filter hard water. I think i also understand that other forms of "purified" water are no better than water from your faucet. I guess I could look again but I don't remember seeing any water purifiers on this site. Any tips or recommendations? I assume a Brita doesn't qualify.

mjackson ♦ Actually we do sell some really good filters. It is important to use as soft as water as possible as scale (Lime and Calcium) are the enemy of your machines. It is important to use filters like this - http://www.wholelattelove.com/Gaggia/mavea_intenza.cfm. It also helps to descale as well, but if you use a filter you will not need to descale as often. I hope this helps the key is to be preventative otherwise you will have perhaps costly problems down the road.
JoaRkim I ended up buying the Mavea Intenza Water Filter for Gaggia. Can't wait to get it in the machine.

Sanfam ♦ Thank you for your question. In most cases, any filter is better than no filter at all, so I'd advise pre-filtering with a Brita pitcher if you don't have anything else handy. In terms of water quality, most bottled "spring water" is simply tap water bottled from a municipal water source within your state. Unless you have extremely hard water, you wouldn't likely see any benefit from using it.
