Gaggia has thrown its hat into the prosumer market, with the launch of the TS, a top-of-the-line espresso machine with commercial components. This unit has been meticulously constructed with the espresso connoisseurs, enthusiasts, and perfectionists in mind. Even at first glance, the superior build quality is evident in the Gaggia TS.

Housed in a powder-coated, heavy-duty stainless steel body, the TS looks, feels, and performs like a professional-grade machine. Switch and knob-based controls are fully accessible from the front panel, to ensure hassle-free brewing, steaming, frothing, and hot-water dispensing. This unit also has 2.5-inches tall stainless steel legs with slip resistant feet for easy maintenance—allowing you to keep your kitchen counter clean.

Look beyond the cosmetics and you’ll begin to understand why this machine has earned the coveted prosumer badge. The TS caters unapologetically to the barista in every coffee lover; this model is meant for those who take pride in the art of making espresso and truly enjoy the brewing process. From its commercial portafilter and four-hole steam wand to the robust 1500-watt heating element and a 2.3 liter copper boiler, the Gaggia TS has a spec sheet that is very similar to its professional counterparts.

Working with the philosophy that great espresso requires temperature precision, the TS has been built to deliver optimal brewing conditions. With its thermostat-operated, electrically heated brew group and precision engineered heat exchanger, the Gaggia TS offers excellent temperature stability. This machine offers the brewing experience that a professional would enjoy and creates great tasting espresso that even the novice would appreciate.

Boiler

The Gaggia TS has a horizontally mounted copper boiler and 1500-watt heating element, to maintain temperature stability without overheating. The horizontal mount keeps the heating element submerged when hot water is in use, helping to prolong the life of the unit. In addition, the boiler has a generous 2.3 liter capacity to accommodate regular, heavy use and allow for quick heat-up and recovery. A pressure gauge, mounted on the front panel of the machine, allows you to keep an eye on the boiler pressure. If you’re a stickler for heat stability and temperature control, the Gaggia TS is a great choice. A commercial-grade heat exchanger has also been integrated into the unit to allow for simultaneous steaming/frothing and brewing.

Brew Group

The TS has an electrically heated brew group that is monitored and controlled by a dedicated thermostat to deliver optimal brewing conditions. This professional grade group is made of chrome-plated brass to ensure temperature stability and longevity.

Three-Way Solenoid Valve

Another commercial feature, the three-way solenoid valve relieves water pressure post extraction to dry out the coffee and prevent dripping. The TS’s three-way solenoid valve empties directly into the drip dray for mess-free operations.

Pressure Relief and Anti-Suction Valves

Critical to the longevity of the machine, the pressure relief valve is a safety feature that releases boiler pressure, should it get too high. The Gaggia TS also has an anti-suction valve that prevents milk from being drawn into the steam wand and boiler of the machine. This feature helps safeguard your steam wand from being clogged and prevents the boiler from being contaminated.

Steam Wand

The Gaggia TS comes equipped with a four-hole, commercial steam tip to deliver café-style milk ideal for lattes, cappuccinos, macchiato, and more. The four-hole steam tip allows for better milk rotation and lets you evenly distribute the steam for superior milk consistency and texture. The steam wand can be swiveled for greater mobility, allowing it to accommodate different sized frothing pitchers. It is controlled by a dedicated steam knob, located on the front panel of the machine.

Commercial Portafilter

Two 58mm portafilters come included with the Gaggia TS. Both, the single and double spouted portafilters, are chrome-plated brass for increased durability and heat stability. A stainless-steel backflush disc is also included with the machine.

Water Reservoir

The Gaggia TS has an internal water reservoir that can be easily removed for hassle-free refilling and maintenance. An electronic low-water sensor has been integrated into the design of the reservoir. The sensor monitors water levels and an indicator light on the front panel will alert you when the reservoir needs to be refilled.

Hot Water Dispenser

The hot water dispenser can be swiveled left and right to meet your needs. It is controlled by a knob located on the left hand side of the front panel, which allows you to manage water flow. Take advantage of the hot water dispenser to make tea, Americano, soup, and more.

Cup Warmer

The Gaggia TS has a passive cup warmer located on the top of the machine. This integrated warmer allows you to pre-heat cups, properly prepping them for brewing. The cup warmer is made of stainless steel for easy cleaning and maintenance.

2.5-Inch Legs

The TS comes with a set of four stainless steel legs with slip-resistant feet, a commercial feature, to elevate the machine. Raising the machine will allow you to easily clean spills and protect your counter surface from being damaged or stained.

Housing and Construction

The Gaggia TS has a stainless steel front panel and drip tray that allow for easy maintenance. The rest of the machine is made of durable and attractive silver powder-coated metal. A small Gaggia logo is visible on the front of the machine; the back showcases the brand name in big block letters.

Jose asked:

Hello, what grinder do you recommend to pair this machine? Thks

Answer by mjackson:

If using for commercial use I would suggest the Mazzer Super jolly, or the Ceado E7 or 37 S, for home use think about the Baratza Vario or the Rancilio Rocky

Briana asked:

can this machine be used in a restaurant?

Answer by techkathy:

It is able to be used in a medium capacity environment. But it would depend on local health codes/regulations.

D asked:

So if this thing can't be descaled then that begs the question what do you do, how often, and how much does it cost and how easy is it to get this thing to a shop that can clean it for you as someone says you have to do since you cannot descale it.?

Answer by Maggie:

The proper care is backflushing regularly-with clean water at the end of the day's use and then with detergent once every week or two, depending on use, as well as using a water with a low mineral content (not distilled or reverse osmosis). They can be descaled-it is just quite difficult and something that it is easiest to have professionally done as opposed to doing so at home. It should be done, on average, about every 3-5 years.

John asked:

Our cabinets are exactly 18 inches from the counter top. Are there any shorter feet options that would allow it to work under these kitchen cabinets?

Answer by Mary Ann:

Unfortunately there are not other options.

Here is the video I wanted to make about one of my favorite drinks: the classic cappuccino. I will go into some detail on how to make the drink as well as help you understand that both proportion and technique are equally important when crafting a cappuccino.

Gaggia TS comes to Town

The Gaggia TS has been manufactured for years but it is now ready for sale in the USA. It was designed to be used in the small cafés in Italy and it did a superb job. I acquired a sample of the machine, started testing it back in March, and was so impressed with the quality of the coffee, the steam power and design of the internal components I knew we had to sell it. All machines have pros and cons on the internal and external sides. But, in my humble opinion the Gaggia TS does very well in both categories. ExteriorI like the exterior very much, since it looks and feels like a commercial machine; for me this is a “pro.” The body is made of powder-coated steel and features a stainless-steel cup warmer, control panel, splash plate and drip grate. The stainless steel legs are tall, so it is easy to clean under the machine without having to move it. Some folks like the machines with the mirror-like polished stainless steel that looks like a piece of art; so for them, Gaggia TS’s powder-coated exterior may not suit their preferences. InteriorThe inside of this machine is really something to appreciate; I could go on for a very long time explaining why, but I’ll just hit the highlights. First and foremost, the internals on the TS allow it to make an excellent espresso that is repeatable over and over again. The main reason is because it has an electrically heated brew group that is controlled by a thermostat. This puts it miles ahead of any standard single boiler heat exchanger machines whether it has the E61 Brew Group or not. The boiler in the TS does have a heat exchanger but the temperature controlled group heater takes out the temperature spikes and which gives it its amazing consistency. It does not match the adjustability of the PID controlled two boiler Expobar Brewtus III but it is still very respectable and its steam pressure can’t be matched. Please note that we have both four hole and single hole steam tips available to match your frothing skills. The boiler is made of copper and it is what we call a horizontal boiler—this will help with longevity of the heating element. The three-way solenoid valve is very easy for service, down the road, and the steam and hot-water valves are true commercial quality components. Gaggia was kind enough to manufacture our machines with the commercial wand from one of it larger machine, this upgrade is exclusive to US models of the TS. In short: the TS is simple in design, has great brew temperature control, lots of steam pressure. Yes, I love it…and now, I just have to get it past my wife. I am happy to answer any question on the TS, or on any other machine you see on the site. Don’t be shy; let me know how I can help. Todd SalzmanTech Guy
