My espresso machine is not working! :'( I was having a problem with the frother and putting the attachments back on in the right way but now when I make espresso's, it just drips out, it's very dark and takes much longer. What am I doing wrong? I've rinsed the brew group. I don't think I need to de-scale as I haven't had it a month yet.

Sanfam ♦ I'm glad to see that you were able to fix your problem! It sounds like there may have been a small clog inside of the machine--The act of rinsing the mildly acidic descaler through it may have been just enough to do it!

I just ordered my Saeco Odea Giro Plus and after reading these reviews I'm kind of nervous about this huge purchase and second guessing myself. I went to ConsumerReports.org and this model was ranked 3rd this year again. I'm still waiting for my machine but any tips or suggestions on use would be so helpful! Thanks much!

Sanfam ♦ The Odea line makes for a simple, reliable espresso machine that should do just fine for most home use. While it doesn't support the Milk Island, the absence of this part means that you don't need to worry about maintaining it, and that your machine simply doesn't have the additional mechanism to worry about. Basically, descale the machine on schedule (once every two to four months depending on your use and the hardness of your water) and rinse water through the steam arm after frothing milk to properly cool the boiler and flush out any milk residue. Finally, make sure you routinely rinse the brew unit to make certain it's clean, and stray away from any super oily coffees--We strongly suggest that you avoid anything from Starbucks, Kirkland, or the Peets dark roasts as a rule of thumb.

JenG11 Hey thank you Sanfam! I really prefer starbucks espresso roast - I do not know if this is oily or not. I don't know much about coffee, except that I need it and I love it. :D
