Rocket Espresso Knock Box
Rocket Espresso Knock Box

In my opinion, the width of the padded bar is not enough to be comfortable whacking the portafilter without worrying about hitting the edges of the box.

Rattleware Basic Knock Box, Maple Holder
Rattleware Basic Knock Box, Maple Holder

I had the basic stainless steel, then I got the Rocket, which I decided was too narrow and gave away. I'm wondering how long the bar is on this one so I can compare it to the one I have.

A A David,
The width of the bar on the box is 5". If you ever need a replacement rubber cover for it, we carry them. I have included a link below:

Expobar Brewtus IV-P (Reservoir and Plumbable)
Expobar Brewtus IV-P (Reservoir and Plumbable)

Help me decide between this and the regular IV - are there any benefits to the standard model besides the slightly lower price? I guess it is not quite as tall, but I have owned an Expobar Office Control and I don't trust those tiny feet. I ended up keeping it on a teflon cutting board so I could slide it to the front of our counter for refilling.

A A David,
The only difference between the two machines is that the IV-P has the on board reservoir, the option to plumb it in, and has the taller feet that you mentioned. Otherwise, they are identical machines and both will give you the same shot given the same variables.

Jotte The hight of the IV-P keeps it from fitting under most cabinets. You will have more flexibility down the road with the IV-P in case you are able to plumb it. Btw...on day 2 and loving the machine.

Expobar Brewtus IV-R with Rotary Pump
Expobar Brewtus IV-R with Rotary Pump

I suppose it is best to connect this to a source of reverse osmosis filtered water?

A A David,
Any kind of filtered water will help prolong the life of a machine and help prevent against scale build up. I know a lot of people have plumbed machines into RO water systems and had no problems.

Baratza Virtuoso Burr Type Coffee Grinder
Baratza Virtuoso Burr Type Coffee Grinder

One commenter suggested having the machine "set up" for espresso. What does this mean? Is this a real option? Also, the specifications say you can grind directly into a portafilter, but another commenter said he is grinding into a juice glass and then putting the grinds into the portafilter. Why would he do this?

TechMilanoItalia This machine is already set up for espresso. Some of the older Baratzas could be modified by Baratza specifically to go finer, but that would be through the manufacturer. This one should not require that. Some people will grind into a cup as it may be easier to slide in and out as opposed to the tighter-fitting grounds container. Generally, we would recommend just pulling that container out and grinding directly into the portafilter.
