the first time i tried to draw a shot the gauge didn't move and i got some coffee, not espresso. i then did the following: adjusted my grinder to a finer grind and used a tamping technique described by a reviewer at another site: i filled the portafilter in 3-4 steps and tamped after each step. that moved the gauge to right where it's supposed to go and produced great espresso with significant ... read more

I got this machine because of the two pumps. Honestly it took some additional info to get it working at the level I wanted. But, since then it has been great. Easy to use, good design and produces great coffee over and over. ... read more

I bought one of these about 14 years ago when it was re-branded as "starbucks barista". I use it 2-4 times per week. I generally find the espresso to be consistent and well made with good cremma. Mine does not have the "easy froth" wand that comes with new machines. I buy several different kinds and brands of whole beans. It took some time and trial to find the best brew with each bean - eg h ... read more

I've had mine for 18yrs and have done some repairs. The relief valve just went so I decided to buy a new one (yes I'll repair the old one and pass it on). I don't think you can beat this machine. The reliability is tremendous (it went 15yrs before I started to pay her some attention) and it espresses a great shot. I live in FL where the water quality is horrible (I double filter but no way all the ... read more

I recently purchased a Saeco Aroma SS which replaced the older all-black version I had for a number of years and which worked well until it rusted.
My experience with this redesigned machine has been very different. I have wasted more coffee with it than I have been able to drinking owing to what seems to be a woefully underpowered and/or poorly designed pump. After making one cup in the mornin ... read more

I purchased two of these machines along with two grinders, one for myself and one as a gift. Excellent machine for less-experienced baristas! Love the push buttons, appearance, quality, and it makes great espresso shots with plenty of crema. Frothing with the included pannarello wand is excellent for cappuccino; for latte, I ordered the latte art wand. Filter handle/basket are professional qual ... read more

Well, my Saeco Via Venezia shipped exactly one year ago so I thought I should share my review of the product.
Out of the box, the Via Venezia is impresssibly durable and asthetically appealing. The instruction manual included with the product is abundantly helpful with more imformation that necessary (much appreciated for this beginner!).
This machine took some time to learn but I ... read more

I bought this here in 2001. It has been used heavily - daily. Finally 12 years later I had a problem that could have been overlooked. I sent it back for service and they called me and said it would be just as inexpensive to do a refurbish as to do a limited repair. So for less than $300 I have a new machine. Get a stopwatch, a good grinder, and learn how to do it properly. You'll be happy. Fresh c ... read more
