I bought this machine to replace an aging Cuisinart that was having issues. I also wanted a machine with a burr grinder and one that I could set up the night before for my morning coffee.
It's simpler to keep clean than the Cuisinart and is quieter too. After about 20 pots of varying sizes, I am happy with its ability to brew good hot, strong (enough) coffee.

There are some serious bad reviews here, but I think they're being overly critical. Think about what this thing does. It's loud (of course, it's burr grinding), but so are most other burr grinders. The bean container holds a good amount of coffee beans. It's a thermal carafe (imo, the best type of carafe to use) which means it will not over heat your coffee sitting on a burner. ... read more

This makes excellent coffee and is easy to clean, but it is not reliable. After 13 months, the grinder died. Krups was nice enough to extend my warranty and repair it for free, although it cost me $30 to send to the repair center. A year later, the heating coil died, and I'm not sure it is worth repairing. I really do like this machine. It makes a surprisingly good cup of whatever it is you're wanting, be it a particular type of tea, coffee, cocoa, or espresso. I've tried the Keurig and liked it, but I consume more espresso based beverages than drip coffee. I really like all the features this coffee pot offers however, IT CLOGS UP after every two pots of coffee and that is really a pain. You take the top off, (be careful or the beans in the holder will go everywhere)open the lid and us the little brush to scrape the clogged area. I use my small vaccum to really clean it out. Brews at proper temperature, which is HUGE. My past seeming-thousand coffee machines always left the coffee underextracted because the water never got to that point...
