This popular Gaggia MM burr grinder holds 6 ounces of coffee beans and comes with adjustable grinding burrs. Choose from 9 degrees of fineness to produce uniform grinds. Grinding duration is controlled with a pushbutton switch. The ground coffee container slides out for ease of use and cleaning. I have a Gaggia Classic with a commercial portafilter and have been using a modified Krupps burr grinder with mediocre results. Will the Gaggia MM grind beans fine enough for good shots or do I need to spend more money? My usual drink is three shots over ice and I've been using Starbucks espresso beans. Thanks, Sean

A A Sean,
If you are using the pressurized filter basket, then the MM would be OK to use. If you are planning on using the commercial style basket, I would recommend stepping up the the MDF or the Baratza Virtuoso.

I have had the gaggia MM grinder for about a year. It is now having trouble feeding the beans to the grinder. Is it the size of the bean? I cleaned out the gummed up mess at the exit, but that didn't make a difference. If I empty the beans and then re-add them it will grind a few and then no more will make it to the grinder.

mjackson ♦ Mickey,

Are using a flavored bean or a rally dark roasted coffee. YOU need to clean a lot if you are doing that. This product will help a lot - http://www.wholelattelove.com/Urnex/grindz_box.cfm. That should help keep your grinder clean. If using a flavored bean it will be really hard to keep clean.

Cuisinart DTC-975 Programmable Thermal

We are very interested in the Cuisinart Programmable Therm, but would like to know if additional carafes are available through WLL? Twelve cups is more than enough for everyday use, but we just threw a party and having 2x12 cups of insulated coffee would've been very handy.

If additional carafes are available through WLL, then we'll be placing our order immediately!

Gaggia Coffee Espresso Machine
Gaggia Coffee Espresso Machine

I have noticed that there is a layer of standing water sitting on top of my grounds when I finish pulling a shot, producing a "soup" that needs to be rinsed out after each shot. Is this normal? If not, is there something I should do?

Whole Latte Love Staff This water is completely normal and is simply left over from the brewing process. It remains in the portafilter because the Coffee doesn’t have a solenoid valve - a part found in higher priced machines that removes this water and excess pressure from the brew group after brewing. Although a plus for cleaning up, the solenoid valve makes no difference when it comes to brewing quality. If you’re interested in looking at a machine with a solenoid valve, I would recommend the Gaggia Classic or the Rancilio Silvia. You can learn more about these machines by following the links below.

I just received my Gaggia MM yesterday from you, and it appears to work o'k. However, I use both expresso and drip grind, with most of it being drip. All 9 settings appear to be expresso, with no discernable difference between the settings. The product details on your website said the grinder settings were adjustable, but no instructions came with the grinder. Can you tell me how to adjust it so I can get both expresso and drip grind from the grinder?

Whole Latte Love Staff You have 9 different levels of fineness that may be hard to distingush between them via the naked eye, but your espresso machine will certainly know the difference.  As for drip coffee you want to turn the hopper to a larger number for a coarser grind - I would suspect level 9 would be your best bet.  It could be finer then you are used too for drip coffee, but if you use good quality beans you can use less coffee then normal and actually yield a better brew. If you need the coffee a little more coarse you can give out tech department a call and they can help you calibrate it over the phone.
