My super automatic is only a few weeks old, but it seems to always think the dregs drawer is full now. No matter how many times I empty and clean it keeps giving me the message that the dreggs drawer is full. How do I get past this?

Whole Latte Love Staff Your machine is designed to count how many shots you’re brewing and then tell you to empty the dump box when it reaches the maximum shot count. The machine does not weigh the dump box or use any sensors to verify if it is in fact full, so if you empty the dump box before it asks you to, it will continue counting.

For example, if it reads "empty dump box" when there is only one puck in there, then you simply need to reset the machine so it can begin counting your shots properly. To do this, just remove the dump box while the machine is on and giving you the "empty dump box" message. Then, leave it out for about 30 seconds so that the machine knows to reset the count to 0. Finally, replace the dump box and the message should go away.

If this does not solve the problem, contact us and we will help you test the micro switch to make sure it is working properly.

When I power the machine on, lights 27 (water droplet), 23 (small cup) and 24 (big cup) blink simultaneously. I believe I need to fill the water circuit, as this is the first time I've used the machine. If I follow the instructions in the manual: fill the water tank and turn the hot water/steam knob, I hear the pump work for about 10 seconds, after which it switches off with no water coming out and no change in the status lights.

Whole Latte Love Staff It sounds like your machine simply needs to be primed manually, which is a fairly common occurance. Please contact us directly at 888-411-5282 so that we can provide you with instructions for this procedure.

This pertains to our Gaggia Super Compact steaming wand - I wanted to see if there was a way to upgrade to the Stainless Steel frothing wand assembly from the Super Compact Digital?

For home use which is better, the digital or compact? What does the price differential account for?

Whole Latte Love Staff Both machines are great for home use, but there are a few differences between them that may help make your decision easier. The first of these is the Compact Digital’s digital display. This LCD display alerts you in plain english when the machine is up to temperature, if the water reservoir or bean hopper need to be refilled, and when to perform certain maintenance procedures. The Compact simply has indicator lights that turn on to alert you to perform the same functions. In addition, the Compact Digital has 2 heating elements, which allows you to move back and forth from brewing to steaming without waiting, whereas the Compact will require about a 30 second wait while it changes temperature. Also, the Compact Digital has 3 programmable brewing buttons compared to the Compact’s 2. Keep in mind that none of these features have any effect on the coffee the machines can produce, so it comes down to the features you think you need.

Today while I was making a coffee in my wonderful Gaggia super-automatic, a nasty "squealing" noise occurred, which I had never heard before. I turned the machine off, pulled out the brew group, cleaned it and everything else I could see. The noise did more or less go away, though there was still a bit of a remnant. I have performed descaling once, when I was instructed to do so, and I try to clean the brew group every so often.

Whole Latte Love Staff This is an issue of lubrication.  The brew unit needs to be lubricated with food edible grease.  This will solve the problem of the squealing brew unit.  You can purchase this product by calling us at 1-888-411-5282 and asking for a tube of Petro Gel grease.

I have had a Magic Deluxe for 4 years. It has been troublefree, although the no-bean indicator never worked....
Now, after descaling, I find that the expressed coffee is wet and it seems to take longer for a cup to make. What could be the problem?

Cleaning the brew unit will most likely cure this problem.  Simply remove the filter screen and the spout that is located on the top of the brew unit.  Be cautious when removing the spout off of the top because there is a spring and checkball that we need to be certain that we do not lose.  Clean the entire brew unit thoroughly and try running a few more shots through the machine to see if this solves the problem.  If not please give us a call at 1-888-411-5282.

Gaggia Coffee de Luxe Espresso Machine
Gaggia Coffee de Luxe Espresso Machine

i recently purchased the gaggia coffee deluxe and was wondering how long can i leave the main power on when not brewing? for example, if i am going to wait an hour for another espresso should i turn it off wait 50 min then turn it back on wait 10 min and brew, or is ok to leave it on?

Whole Latte Love Staff It is not recommended that you leave this machine on when it is not in use. The main reason for this is that it does not have an auto-fill feature (like prosumer machines do), so the water can fully evaporate from the boiler. In addition, leaving it on for extended periods can decrease the life of the heating element over time. I would recommend turning the machine off if you won’t be brewing with it again within an hour.

My Gaggia semi-automatic espresso machine has a very "violent" start. The first second of the brew process produces a strong vibration and noise - then it eases off and brews as expected. Is this normal?

Whole Latte Love Staff This is normal.  The vibration pump in and of itself is a noisy component.  What is happening is that the pump is dry when we first engage it.  Then once water is fed into the pump, it quiets down.  This noise is typical with this style pump and shouldn’t be cause for concern.
