Question on Jura Capresso Espresso Classic Luxe

Can you tell me if the portafilter is stainless steel?

What size is the portafilter?

Does the portafilter have 1 or 2 spouts?

Is this 'refurbished' a factory recertified?

Thanks

TechMilanoItalia Phyllis, the portafilter has 2 spouts, is made of aluminum, and is 54mm in size. The Jura-Capresso machines are refurbished at Jura-Capresso by factory technicians.

Can the frothing attachment on the wand be removed so there is just a plain stainless nozzle that can be used for frothing?

Whole Latte Love Staff There isn’t a plain stainless nozzle underneath the Dual Frother, so although you an remove it for cleaning, etc., what you’re looking for won’t be there. Keep in mind though, that the Dual Frother isn’t an auto-frothing attachment. It’s simply a frothing aid that makes it easier to create steamed and frothed milk manually.

Do you need to prime the pump and release steam before you can brew espresso and froth hot milk?

Whole Latte Love Staff Although you will have to prime the pump when you set up the machine for the first time, you will not need to for each additional use. The machine will automatically draw water into the boiler after the initial set-up. However, it is always a good idea to run a "blank shot" prior to brewing to ensure that the group head and portafilter are fully heated. To do this, you simply attach the portafiter to the machine without coffee in it and press the brew button to pull hot water all the way through and heat the external components.

Does this machine have a resevoir or do you need to have direct water line installed?

Whole Latte Love Staff The Espresso Classic Luxe has a 40 oz internal reservoir that will need to be refilled. It does not have the ability to be plumbed to a water line. Information like this can be found for any of the espresso machines we carry by following the link below to our Compare-O-Matic.

Bodum Bistro Nouveau Press
Bodum Bistro Nouveau Press

What grinder should I get for a french press like this one? I'm worried that an inexpensive blade grinder will give me a muddy cup because I'll get some small bits. If I need to go with a burr grinder, I'm sure I don't need one of the same quality I'd need for brewing espresso. So what's a good value burr grinder? I want whatever would be adequate for a french press, but not more.

Whole Latte Love Staff You sound like you’re way ahead of the game as far as knowing what type of grinder you should be looking for. You are very correct in saying that an inexpensive blade grinder will give you a muddy cup and that you don’t necessarily need a grinder that will grind fine enough for espresso. If you’ll only be grinding for French press, there are a few grinders I could recommend - the Bodum Antigua, the Capresso Burr Grinder Select, the Gaggia MM, and the Solis Maestro are probably going to be your best bets. You can learn more about these grinders by following the links below, and compare them side-by-side by clicking on the link to our Compare-O-Matic.

Solis Crema SL90
Solis Crema SL90

Does this machine grind beans? As we have purchased a Solis grinder, this would be an extra feature we would not want. We are retired 'newbees' so don't have much experience making our own lattes, etc. here at home.

Whole Latte Love Staff The Solis SL90 does not have a built-in grinder and is considered a semi-automatic machine because of this.  If you are looking for a machine that does not have a grinder, you will want to keep looking under the category of semi-automatic machines.  Below, I have provided a link to our buying guide for semi-automatic espresso machines so that you can determine the type of features you may be looking for in a machine.

Gaggia Coffee de Luxe Espresso Machine
Gaggia Coffee de Luxe Espresso Machine

i recently purchased the gaggia coffee deluxe and was wondering how long can i leave the main power on when not brewing? for example, if i am going to wait an hour for another espresso should i turn it off wait 50 min then turn it back on wait 10 min and brew, or is ok to leave it on?

Whole Latte Love Staff It is not recommended that you leave this machine on when it is not in use. The main reason for this is that it does not have an auto-fill feature (like prosumer machines do), so the water can fully evaporate from the boiler. In addition, leaving it on for extended periods can decrease the life of the heating element over time. I would recommend turning the machine off if you won’t be brewing with it again within an hour.
