Gaggia Latte Art-Style Pannarello Wand
Gaggia Latte Art-Style Pannarello Wand

Hi, so I recently purchased this from you guys for my old espresso gaggia 16002 ( http://www.amazon.com/Gaggia-16002-Espresso-Machine-Black/dp/B0000CFET5/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top ) and am having some trouble fitting this attachment. I assumed after reading all the other questions, that it would fit almost all old Gaggia's out there with a metal steam arm, so I went ahead and bought it. However, since my steam arm already has the upper housing section and gasket/o-ring attached (like this: http://coffeesnobs.com.au/Attachments/DSCF4802.JPG ) It's becoming apparent that this isn't going to fit :/ Any tips or solutions?

DanielCulver The picture is quite blurred but have you examined closely to see if that fitting is made up of two pieces suggesting a collet type fitting that can be removed. :)

Rancilio Commercial Portafilter, Single Spout
Rancilio Commercial Portafilter, Single Spout

Hello, I have the Silvia with the stock PortaFilter. Will this one work on the Silvia? Also, since it is heavier will it wear out the seals on the silvia or put extra burden on the structer of the machine?

DanielCulver I believe that this will fit your machine, but perhaps someone with more experience with that particular machine will further verify this. I would like to speak to the weight question. As long as the fit is the same, the heavier brass commercial portafilter is better for your machine. The extra weight of the portafilter doesn't bear any additional stress on the group-head but instead the improved rigidity will actually reduce the stress on the group-head. The combination of brass and chrome plating reduces friction between the lugs with the group-head compared to other materials like aluminum or stainless steel. Some people pre-warm the portafilter a little with hot water and the heavier brass is more effective with this practice as well (not recommending it, just commenting on efficacy).

I know I'm probably going to bit overboard, but what is that a Saeco Exprelia?

Sanfam ♦ This part will not fit the Exprelia's steam wand--the arm on that particular machine is too large in diameter and already sufficiently narrows the flow at the base. In fact, the performance of the bare steam wand on the Exprelia should be similar to the performance of the Latte Art wand with the outer sleeve removed.

Gaggia Stainless Steel Pannarello Wand

I own a gaggia classic - I need to replace my pannarello wand - my current plastic wand would shoot out at times, will the stainless steel stay put and be a better buy?

DanielCulver I have used this wand for about 3 years on two machines and overall I like it very much. The details are that yes, it will shoot the larger SS and plastic cone end into your milk pitcher at times. Also, the entire unit can shoot off of the steam pipe occasionally. I have gathered enough experience to offer some advice on these two problems. As far as the entire unit staying on the steam pipe; attach the wand only when the unit is cold and tighten using a rubber gripper. I personally just use a small piece of rubber I have in my shop, but I imagine any decent rubber gripping tool will do. The unit is plastic underneath the stainless steel so the challenge is to find the right balance between cranking it down and not over tightening until it is damaged. I feel the unit is pretty strong and can take some decent amount of force, but that is a subjective evaluation so experiment until it no longer comes off. I haven't had the end piece shoot off in almost two years and my solution there was to change my cleaning habit. Instead of removing the end piece for cleaning after every session, I now only wipe the outside and ball up the washcloth I am using and push it against the end of the wand with the steam wide open. This forces steam through the small vent hole. Don't hold it too long, it will heat up and burn you. I do this several times. Then approximately weekly, I remove the end piece and clean it (soaking it in a milk pitcher I use for steaming) and the wand body while it remains on the steam pipe. I never remove the main body except if for repairs. Putting the end piece back on the wand body when the whole unit is cold and making sure you feel the o-ring seat fully prevents the end piece from shooting off. I hope this helps you find your own solutions. The wand is worth the effort to me because it produces a very nice micro-foam suitable to coffee art and less risk of burning the milk. :)

La Marzocco Dbl RIDGELESS Basket (does NOT fit Rancilio)

Hi, this one looks like the one that came with my Baby Gaggia (circa 1997?). Do you know if it's compatible?

Sanfam ♦ While this part may work with your Gaggia Baby, the older style portafilters of this era were slightly more shallow than the newer parts--this could result in the filter basket being unable to seat correctly, effectively rendering it unusable.

Pod Filter Basket

Is the Gaggia Pod Filter Basket (https://www.wholelattelove.com/Gaggia/gaggia-11005535.cfm) pressurized? I'm looking for a non-pressurized single shot filter basket for my Gaggia Baby Twin machine.

DanielCulver Pretty sure the one you're looking at is the regular single open filter basket. Gaggia in their own literature are usually very careful about saying pressurized anytime it is a pressure filter. Whole Latte Love usually follows that example in my experience. WLL gives very good service to, so just call and you'll get your answer very quickly.

Gaggia Portafilter with Chrome Double-Spout

I need to replace my portafilter to my gaggia classic. I think the original is stainless; however, I can only find replacement in Chrome. Do you think the original is Chrome? Does it matter?

DanielCulver The original probably was chrome plated brass like all the Gaggia portafilters I've ever seen. They are very well made and should give many years of good service. If you have pealing or flaking chrome around the lugs just sand smooth. Compared to stainless steel, chrome or brass is far less abrasive to mating surfaces and it is preferred. It is best to have as much of the wear as possible on the portafilter than the group or brewhead given the cost of replacement.
