These tampers are more then just a tool - they are an elegant instrument, constructed of rosewood handles and 58mm stainless steel heads (flat bottom). The Reg Barber Tampers are available with the WLL logo, Gaggia logo, ECM logo, Pasquini logo, Plain White top, Plain Black top or the Diva tamper (Note: the "Diva" tamper has a Maple handle).
I have never used any other tamper so I do not know what to compare to. I do know that the one thing I was told by an espresso aficionado was to make sure I bought a good tamper and threw away the one that came with the machine. I bought this one and once I felt this compared to the one in the box...

Is a flat or ridged bottom better for a tamper? I have been using a flat bottom, but sometimes the espresso shot comes out poor because it runs to a low spot. I'm thinking a ridged pattern might help prevent this, but would like some expert advice. ;-)

Michael Rosso ♦ Amy...I prefer the flat tampers. I would suggest you double check to make sure your actual tamper is tamping firmly in the center of the portafilter. Thanks

That is a great machine and great looking as well. You will need a 53 mm tamper. We don't have one with a Logo. I am not sure if you mean your own special logo or a La Pavoni logo. You can order them special from some places but they are expensive.
I purchased the Gaggia Classic from you and love it. What size tamper should I use with my Classic?
