I've had my Royal Exclusive now for about a month. After several unsuccessful attempts one evening at making decaf in the bypass doser, I gave up (maybe the grounds were too coarse). Anyways, since then, when making coffee the "regular" way, there is a new sound that I am uncomfortable with. Just as soon as it is done tamping the grounds, the machine sounds as though it is straining too hard just before the coffee comes out into the cup. Also, the grounds, which used to be so compact and solid when they were disposed, are now coming out wet and messy. If you have any suggestions I'd really appreciate them! Thank you

Whole Latte Love Staff The bypass doser feature does sound like the grounds may be too coarse. The objective for an appropriate grind is the consistency of granulated sugar, or slightly finer. This may solve the problem with the bypass doser. The second issue sounds as if the brew group is getting dirty and is whining to be cleaned. I would first remove the shower screen using the brew group key that should have been included with your machine. Clean this filter screen thoroughly. Another area to clean would be the stem that connects the brew group to the dispensing spouts. This stem should have two screws that you can remove, beneath the stem is a spring and check ball so be cautious. Remove the spring and check ball, you may need to turn the brew group over to get the small check ball out. Reassemble the stem and try again. You should always run a bypass doser blank shot through the brew group after every espresso session. Do this by pressing the bypass doser button and any brew button, then let the clean hot water run through the brew group keeping these areas from oil buildup, prohibiting coffee flow.

Saeco does not offer a plumb kit at this time you may contact Saeco at 1-800-933-7876 for more information regarding this matter.

Is it normal for the machine to always display the OVERHEATED message after steaming milk? I first press the steam button and when the machine displays the READY message I steam the milk, following the instructions in the manual. Afterwards, if I press the steam button again to deselect the steam option the machine will display the OVERHEATED message (at which point I open the steam valve to purge the steam until hot water runs out). I've also tried to first purge the steam before pressing the steam button to deselect the steam option but again I get the OVERHEATED message. Is this message normal (as a way to get you to purge the steam from the machine) or am I doing something wrong? Unfortunately the manual is pretty worthless when it comes to accurately explaining the proper order to select/deselect the steam option.

I would appreciate any advice someone could offer.

Whole Latte Love Staff When you push the steam button to turn off the steaming function the display is letting you know that the boiler is too hot for brewing and that it must be cooled down. If the boiler was not cooled down it would send super heated water over the coffee thus burning it. You had the right idea when you opened the steam knob to pump fresh water into the boiler and out of the steam wand. The only problem is that you did not wait long enough. After a couple of more seconds the overtemperature on the display would have gone away and it would have just said "Hot Water". At this point you can close the steam knob and brew another espresso. We tested the Royal Exclusive and found that it took about 52 seconds to heat from brew temperature to steam temperature. It only took 14 seconds and about 4 ounces of water to cool it back down from steam temperature to brew temperature. You can see all of our test results on our Compare-O-Matic.

Why do I have water in the drip tray, every time I use the machine? I always put a cup under the coffee dispensing unit when it rinsing. So I don't understand where is the water coming from? Do I have a leak somewhere? I have my machine for a week now. It does a great job otherwise.

Whole Latte Love Staff It is perfectly normal for your and every other super automatic machine to deposit some water in the drip tray after every brew. So have no fear and just enjoy the coffee.

Operationally these machines are very similar, the key difference is that the Magic Comfort has what is called Rapid Steam. This feature is based on a second boiler that is used for steaming only. As a result, the Magic Comfort is ready to steam much quicker then the Royal Exclusive - 10 seconds vs 52 seconds.  If after you steam and you want to brew again, then you need to cool down the boiler. Magic Comfort is ready to brew immediately and the Royal Exclusive requires about 14 seconds and 4 ounces of water. Brewing is the same and overall programmability is the same as well.
