How do I clean the carafe? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • Washing the carafe in warm, soapy water is the easiest way to keep it clean. However, if you there are some stains you’re having trouble removing with just soap and water, I would recommend using Urnex Cleancaf. Just add 1 tablespoon of Cleancaf to a full carafe of hot water and let it sit for 10 minutes - it will be sparkly clean when you’re done. You can purchase and find more information on Urnex Cleancaf by following the link below.

How long will the carafe keep coffee hot? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • A thermal carafe will keep the coffee hot for about 3 hours and there are a couple things you can do to maximize the heat retention for that time. The first is preheating the carafe by running it under hot water before brewing. A cold carafe will absorb the heat from the coffee, so rinsing it with hot water ahead of time will help you avoid that. In addition, it helps not to put the carafe back in the brewing position when brewing is done. This is because when the carafe is in place, a valve in the lid is pressed down to allow coffee into the carafe. If you put it back in this spot after brewing, the valve will be pressed and allow all the heat to escape from the inside of the pot. If you take these few suggestions to heart, you should be enjoying your piping hot coffee for hours after brewing.

Coffee overflows the filter during brewing. click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • The first 2 things I would normally recommend would be to make sure you’re not overfilling the filter basket and to ensure the grounds aren’t too fine. But since you’ve already tried these things, the next thing on your list should be to make sure the filter holder is clean. This part of the machine has a spring-loaded stopper that gets pressed up while the carafe is in place to let coffee drip through. If it is stuck with coffee residue and oils, it will result in the overflow you’ve described. Try cleaning this part of the machine to remove any residues and see if it helps. If you’ve done this and continue to have problems, I would recommend contacting Cuisinart directly at 800-726-0190 for further assistance.

Does it have a warming plate? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • Since this machine has a thermal carafe, it does not need a hot plate to keep the coffee warm. If you’re looking for a machine that does have a hot plate (and glass carafe), I would recommend the Cuisinart Programmable Filter Brew as an alternative. It has all the same features as the Programmable Therm, like the ability to program brewing times and auto shut-off, but has the glass carafe and hot plate you’re looking for. You can learn more about the Programmable Filter Brew by following the link below.

How do I clean the water reservoir? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • Cuisinart recommends cleaning out the internal portions of the machine on a monthly basis. To do this, Cuisinart says to add 2 cups of vinegar to the carafe, and fill it the rest of the way with water. Then add the mixture to the reservoir and run the brewing cycle. Discard the vinegar/water mixture, and then run 2 or 3 carafes full of plain water through the machine to remove any residual flavor.

How large is the carafe opening for cleaning? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • With the lid removed, the opening on the top of the carafe is approximately 2 inches in diameter, which is probably a little small to get your hand into. I would recommend using a long-handled cleaning brush to make sure you get hte carafe throughly clean.

Capresso MT500 vs. Cuisinart Programmable Therm click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • These 2 models are very similar feature-wise, so I wouldn’t necessarily say one stands out over the other - it’s going to come down to which features you prefer. The main differences you will find between the machines are the capacity and the ability to brew smaller pots. The Capresso MT500 has a 10-cup total capacity with the ability to brew as few as 3 cups, whereas the Cuisinart Programmable Therm has a 12-cup capacity and no small pot option. In addition, the MT500 has a metal alloy body (versus the Programmable Therm’s plastic housing) and a built-in water filtration system. Besides these few things, these machines are very similar in function and quality, so I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend either for your use.
