The gold-tone filter sits in a plastic filter holder, which is removable from the machine. There is a plastic loop toward the front of the machine - slip your finger through and gently pull up - the filter holder should lift right out. Then you can rinse this component at the sink. Just be sure to dry it thoroughly before returning it to its spot inside the machine.
The Cuisinart Brew Central has a cleaning indicator light that will come on when the unit needs to be descaled. To do this, Fill the reservoir with 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water, press the self clean button, and flip the brewing switch into the on position. When the cleaning cycle is completed, the machine will beep five times and shut off. Turn the coffee maker back on, and if the self cleaning light is still blinking, turn the machine off and repeat the cleaning process with fresh solution. When the light no longer flashes, run another brew cycle using only water to flush the unit before you brew again. Besides this procedure, the only other thing you will need to do is wash and rinse the carafe with warm, soapy water on a regular basis.
When the Brew Central needs to be cleaned (descaled), the light next to the Self-cleaning button will begin to blink. When youre ready to run the cleaning cycle, you fill the reservoir with the vinegar/water solution Cuisinart recommends and press the Self-cleaning button. Then the machine will run its own programmed cleaning cycle without you having to do anything. For detailed instructions on cleaning, please reference your user manual.
