With its retro Italian styling and commercial craftsmanship, the Bezzera Galatea Domus makes a bold statement about how you brew your espresso. Whether entertaining guests or pulling that first shot of the day, this machine has the performance and the presentation to impress.

When talking about this machine one can’t help but comment on the exterior. This time around Bezzera pulled all the stops, the Galatea Domus is anything but modest. Resting on 1.75” legs, the body is made from AISI 304 stainless steel with angled side panels that round out at the top. The cup rails are actually three individual pieces on the back and sides of the machine while the cup tray itself is large enough to accommodate as many as eight espresso cups at a time. The drip tray is also rather unique and sports a wave design that adds a nice bit of flair where you least expect it. Lastly, the front panel is built with dual manometers to keep an eye on both pressure and temperature at the same time.

Unsurprisingly, the Galatea Domus is as sophisticated internally as it is externally. Like other Bezzera models, the machine sports a 2 liter copper heat exchange boiler and an ample 4 liter reservoir with a built-in shutoff switch that cuts power to the heating element when it runs out of water. Temperature in the E61 group head is passively maintained by a thermosyphon system to ensure stable brewing temperatures at all times.

For milk drinks, the Galatea Domus can produce roughly 45 seconds of steam time before needed to recover. The steam wand features a commercial style 4-hole tip that speeds up milk frothing and can require a bit of a learning curve for those who aren’t used to steaming so quickly. As a heat exchange machine, the boiler allows for simultaneous brewing and steaming so with practice you’ll be able to cut your drink preparation time in half.

While the jury may be out as to whether it belongs in an art gallery or on your countertop, the Bezzera Galatea Domus still makes a mean cup of espresso.
