Owning the Cuisinart DGB-900 Grind & Brew

The Cuisinart Grind & Brew Thermal 12-Cup Automatic Coffee maker brings you the technology necessary for a superior cup of coffee, without sacrificing the simplicity you crave. A bean hopper sets this machine apart from the other Cuisinart coffee makers. Fully programmable and complete with its own burr grinder, this coffee maker makes a great gift and is an integral part of any coffee lover’s kitchen. You have the option of using either whole beans or pre-ground coffee. Remember, though, that coffee beans deteriorate rapidly after they are ground; for the best taste, use whole beans. Each button and dial on the control panel is clearly labeled in black for ease of use. Cuisinart offers you the special touches that you’ve come to expect by now – like the ability to program brewing up to 24 hours in advance, and an easily programmable clock – while adding innovative details like a Brew Pause feature, 1-4 cup setting, and strength control (mild, medium, or strong). Cuisinart seamlessly blends technology and simplicity in the Grind & Brew Thermal. The showerhead design distributes water evenly over the coffee, so that no grounds become over extracted and bitter. It uses a “Brew Pause” system, so you can pour your first cup of coffee mid-brew on those rushed mornings.

Stainless steel and black plastic housing make taking care of this machine a snap. A damp cloth can be used to clean up drips and spills. Remove the bean hopper to clean the coffee chute and filter; the bean hopper and lid can be washed in warm soapy water. Meanwhile, the Grind & Brew’s simple design – as well as its compact dimensions – allow this coffee maker to fit in well to all kinds of kitchens and workstations. Made of high quality materials, the Grind & Brew is durable and reliable. Cuisinart gets all the details right with the Grind & Brew Thermal 12-Cup, and the grinder is no different. Even before it begins grinding, the bean hopper holds 8 oz of beans, protecting them from the damaging effects of moisture and air. The burr grinder grinds automatically when you set the coffee maker to brew, but you can also turn off the grinder if you plan on using pre-ground coffee. A stainless steel 12-cup thermal carafe means that your coffee stays warm longer, even when you brew in small batches. Its no-drip design includes double-wall insulation, and there is no need to turn or adjust the lid after brewing. The thermal carafe improves upon a hot plate design, because exposing coffee to a direct heat source can cause the coffee’s flavors to break down after only an hour or so. The thermal carafe, which rests on a scratch-resistant resting plate, maintains the coffee’s temperature for hours, rendering a hot plate obsolete. To clean the carafe and lid, wash it in warm soapy water or clean on the top rack of your dishwasher.

The reservoir’s water level window means you won’t have to wonder whether you poured in the right amount of water. Fill the water reservoir by simply opening the lid and pouring in the desired amount of water. Don’t put any water into the reservoir when the bean hopper lid has been removed – the reservoir is located close to the grinder, and accidentally spilling water into the grinder can damage it. Impurities in your tap water can result in coffee that just doesn’t taste right. The built-in charcoal water filter removes chlorine and other impurities from your water, so the flavors of your coffee are never overshadowed. The filter should be replaced once every 60 days, or after 60 uses, whichever comes first. The Cuisinart 12-cup Grind & Brew Thermal includes a Gold Tone Cuisinart Commercial Style Filter. It rests in the filter basket, which can be removed for easy cleaning. A special safety system prevents brewing if the filter basket door is not properly closed, so no coffee spills if the brew button is pushed accidentally. The Cuisinart DGB-900 Grind & Brew Thermal 12-cup Automatic comes with a charcoal water filter, gold tone coffee filter, and detailed instruction manual.
