Features & Benefits: Coffee
With the Cuisinart EM-100, you have the choice to brew using ground coffee or pods. This machine comes with single shot, double shot, and ESE pod baskets, so you have a variety of brewing options to meet your needs. Brewing with ground coffee is great for those learning the art of espresso making, while brewing with pods reduces clean up and ensures consistent results.
On the front of the Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso Machine are the power button, a heating indicator light, and 2 control knobs. The large function knob in the center controls brewing and steaming/hot water output, and features icons for ease-of-use. The smaller knob above the power button lets you select whether you would like steam or hot water dispensed when you turn the center knob, and also heats the boiler to proper steaming temperature.
After pressing the power button on the Cuisinart EM-100, the red heating light will illuminate to let you know the boiler is not yet at brewing temperature. Once the light goes off, the machine is ready to go. Simply add ground coffee or a pod to the portafilter basket, lock the portafilter into place, and turn the center function knob to the coffee icon on the left. When your desired amount of espresso has been reached, turn the knob to the center to stop the flow.
Pressure plays a large role in a great espresso extraction, and helps to achieve a layer of rich crema on top of your shots. Without proper pressure, espresso can taste weak. The Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso Machine features a powerful 15 bar pump that ensures youll get consistent (and delicious) results every time you brew.
Features & Benefits: Frothing and Hot Water
Stainless Steel Frothing Wand
For making creamy cappuccinos, lattes, and other café-style drinks, the Cuisinart EM-100 comes with a stainless steel frothing wand and frothing pitcher. To produce steam, turn the small steam/hot water knob to the steam icon and wait for the boiler to heat to the proper temperature. The red heating light will turn off once the proper temperature is reached, and when you turn the center function knob to the steam icon on the right, steam will be dispensed from the frothing wand. When youre done frothing, simply turn the center knob to the off position.
If you want to enjoy tea, hot chocolate, or an Americano, the EM-100 can dispense hot water right from the steam wand. For hot water, turn the small steam/hot water knob to the hot water icon (two water droplets) and wait for the boiler to heat. When the heating light turns off, just turn the center knob to the hot water icon. When the desired amount of hot water has been reached, turn the knob back.

I received an EM100 Cuisinart espresso machine as a gift. When it came to frothing the milk, the machine made a thumping noise and the wand produced a few bubbles and stopped. I returned the machine and received another. Today, I followed the instructions exactley and when it came to frothing the milk, the machine thumped and the wand did absolutely nothing - no froth. I phoned Cuisinart and held the phone so the customer service person could hear the thumping. He said that was not normal and now I have packed up my second machine for return. Has anyone had this problem? If so, how was it resolved. I have a feeling the third replacement will do the same thing. It shouldn't be this difficult to make an espresso with the frothed milk.
The thumping is normal when the machine is in the steam mode. We have not heard about problems with these machine. If you would like to have on tested before we send it I would be happy to do it. If so call in and talk to a customer service or sales person and ask them to put into the shipping notes that you would like Todd to test the machine before it ships. I will then make sure it is working perfectly.
Unfortunately, I already sent it in about three days ago. It's under Rick Krull. Even if the thumping is normal, it would not froth the milk. And, I don't want a machine that thumps. It's very loud and annoying. It sounds like it is broke. Can you please watch for it's arrival and you can test it and make sure it froths well. I want the milk to thicken as it's suppose to. I originally spoke to Frank on the phone and he could hear the thumping through the phone and said it wasn't a normal thing.
