Owning the Nuova Simonelli Musica Lux Direct Connect
The Musica Lux lights up the room. Nuova Simonelli’s hottest machine is the Musica. This Lux has everything: LED lined curves, backlit automatic brew buttons, commercial-grade components, and an NSF rating. Nuova Simonelli, known for their championship commercial machines, packs innovations a gogo into the Musica Lux. Available in an exclusively plumbable Direct Connect, or a 3 L reservoir-operated Pour Over version, the Musica Lux is versatile and easily rises to the occasion in a bustling cafe or home kitchen. It’s a heat exchange machine, so its 2.5 L boiler is capable of brewing and steaming simultaneously, and it features many of the same great commercial components as the Oscar II, making some improvements along the way. For example, the Musica Lux improves on the steam wand, swapping out the 4-hole commercial tip on the Oscar II for a latte art one; plus, said steam wand is operated by a switch rather than a knob, so you can immediately steam at full power or throttle the switch for additional precision. On all of their machines, Nuova Simonelli incorporates their own E61 style group head into the Musica Lux, which syphons hot water through the brew circuit to aid in temperature stability throughout. In combination with the heat retentive copper boiler and tubing, the Musica Lux makes for a highly temp stable machine. The best part, in our opinion, is the programmable control panel, which allows you to turn pre-infusion on or off, press a button to dispense a single or double shot or a set amount of hot water for an Americano, cocoa, or hot tea, plus, new to the Lux, you can also adjust the brightness of the integrated LEDs. We think we may have found the true juke box hero, and she brews a mean espresso.
Just like on the rest of its machines, Nuova Simonelli designed the Musica Lux to be safety conscious, self sufficient, and smart. Measures are in place to ensure the machine powers off after 90 seconds of consecutive brewing to avoid overheating; the Musica Lux alerts you when the boiler is actively heating to brew temperature in the boiler; and its steam wand is outfitted with an anti-siphon valve, which prevents milk from being sucked into the boiler. A new addition to the Musica and Musica Lux is its accessible pressurestat, which can be adjusted from the outside of the machine in order to affect the boiler temperature. Changes are reflected immediately in the newly incorporated pressure gauge. Because of this commitment to quality components and design, the Musica Lux is backed by an NSF certification and can slide onto any cafe countertop ready to perform. We do recommend high volume cafes consider one of Nuova Simonelli’s commercial offerings, however. Take care of the Musica’s maintenance and she’ll take care of your brews shot after shot, year after year. Take a look at the Oscar II for a bit smaller of a machine with a lot of the same great features and all the quality of the Musica; or, the standard Musica offers all the same great functionality with classy black stripes in place of LEDs.
