Rocket Espresso Mozzafiato Cronometro V Overview

The Mozzafiato Cronometro V is a sister machine to the Giotto Cronometro V, and they share everything, though, like sisters, they have different styles. The Giotto is a riskier dresser with its structured panels, while the Mozzafiato is on the traditional side, opting for standard panels. The Cronometro version of the Mozzafiato features a hidden shot timer just above the power switch with a digital readout that appears when the pump is activated and disappears when it's off, blending in with the stainless steel housing.

Features and Performance

Rocket has incorporated all of its great aesthetic elements, such as the tapered, height adjustable feet, and easy-grip gear steam and hot water knobs with the iconic “R” stamped on the steam side. Rocket Espresso’s patented cool-touch technology ensures that the steam wand is safe to use, since only the nozzle gets hot. As a heat exchange machine, the Mozzafiato can brew and steam simultaneously, and, its integrated PID controller keeps the temperature stable and can be programmed across four settings to accommodate any roast.

Helping with the temperature stability is the E61 group, which syphons water from the boiler, through the group, and back. Rocket’s redesigned E61 group head, which has a dual pre-infusion system consisting of a static chamber and mechanical working piston, aids in fully saturating the grounds, while the PID keeps the temperature consistent, both elements combining to ensure an excellent extraction each shot you brew. Rocket was one of the first manufacturers to incorporate a PID in a HX machine, a truly innovative choice which has inspired many others to do the same.

Internally, the Mozzafiato Cronometro V is identical to the Giotto Cronometro V. It houses a large 1.8 L copper boiler and 1200 watt heating element, and integrated sensors monitor the boiler and reservoir levels for low volumes, alerting you, and, if necessary, shutting off automatically so as not to let the boiler run dry. One of our favorite things about Rocket machines are the accessories. They include a full color training guide complete with a USB thumb drive with extra content. Plus, rather than include a chintzy plastic tamper, Rocket throws in a branded metal tamper so you’re always ready to brew like a pro.

Why You Should Get It

The Mozzafiato Cronometro V is a gorgeous, high-performer that will keep you happily caffeinated for years to come. If you love Rocket’s style, but prefer a smaller model, the Appartamento slides into any space at just 9” wide; for even greater functionality, take a look at the Mozzafiato Cronometro R, which can be plumbed directly into a water line.

  • PID Temperature Controller

Generally, heat exchange machines require a cooling flush after steaming or before brewing a shot if the machine has been sitting; however, by integrating a PID to regulate the temperature, Rocket removes the need for a cooling flush. The PID temperature controller uses 4 signal parameters to ensure the best results in the cup.

  • Reimagined E61 Brew Group

Rocket incorporates a dual pre-infusion system into their E61, which consists of a chamber and mechanical working piston, to aid the extraction and ensure the grounds are fully saturated upon brewing. To reduce scale buildup, Rocket uses a custom ceramic design in their E61 chamber as opposed to brass or stainless steel.

  • Heavy-Duty Boiler

At the heart of the Mozzafiato Cronometro V is its 1.8 liter copper boiler, equipped with a 1200 watt heating element. The copper design shows improved heat retention and temperature stability, resulting in greater energy efficiency. Passive heat from the boiler also heats the removable cup warmer on the top of the Mozzafiato Cronometro V.

  • Subtle Shot Timer

The Cronometro series takes its name from the inclusion of a shot timer above the machine's power switch. Pale blue with minimal lighting and flourish, the shot timers automatically switch on when the brew lever is engaged. The subtle design is intended to keep the timer from distracting from the beauty of the machine.
