The Anti Scale Filter is designed to be installed in the reservoir of ECM espresso machines. Using an anti lime system, the filter reduces up to 40% of limescale buildup inside of your espresso machine. The reduction of scale results in better tasting coffee and improves the performance of your machine. Please note however that even with an anti scale fitler installed, you must still descale your espresso machine to eliminate the remaining mineral deposits not prevented by the fitler. ECM recommends changing your filter every two months. Sold in packs of 2.

Please Note: This filter is not compatible with ECM's rotary pump machines.

Paul asked:

I just read on an on-line forum that these filters shouldn't be used with rotary pump machines.  Is that correct?  I've had one in my Technika for almost two months.  Could that have caused a problem?

Answer by Sanfam:

The forum is correct!  These softeners are not intended for use with rotary pump machines.  These pumps are designed to be used either with no restriction or with positive pressure on the inlet. Adding a restriction (like the softener cartridge) can lead to excessive wear on the pump and its bearings.  While using it for these two months would not likely have caused a problem, continuing to do so over the long term would have certainly counted against the pump's life expectancy, and in the short term may have led to a much louder-than-normal sounding pump.

Basically, Pull the cartridge out and toss it away; Your machine should be A-OK.

Paul asked:

I purchased this filter for me Technika machine and figured that installation would be as easy as possible.  But it turns out that the part of the filter that should fit with the water intake in the tank is the same size as the water intake opening.  In other words, there is no way for the filter and the water intake tube to fit together.  Or am I missing somethig?
