Owning the Mazzer Kony Espresso Grinder

The Mazzer Kony is a stepless, doser grinder with manual timed grinding functionality. Its large 63mm conical burrs spin at a low speed speed of 500 RPM, which speedily delivers grounds into the doser without heating up the burrs. The extra large hopper can hold just under three pounds of coffee, and the timer dial operation can grind in up to sixty second increments for continual use. The grounds are deposited into a large doser, which can be adjusted to dispense anywhere from 5.5 to 9 grams into your portafilter with a flick of the dosing lever. Just like the Mazzer Royal, the Kony’s doser can dispense up to twelve pre-portioned amounts before needing to be refilled, which it can do automatically, and those grinds can then be easily tamped with the built-in tamper. Both the doser and its built-in tamper are designed with high-volume scenarios in mind, where you want to be able to quickly grind and tamp for several drinks in a row. We think the Mazzer Kony is a ten out of ten, and we definitely recommend.

The Mazzer Kony is stepless, meaning it can be adjusted to a virtually infinite degree by turning the collar in small amounts. Although the Kony is capable of producing coarse or fine grinds, in a cafe environment it’s just impractical to use one grinder for both jobs. Best to let the Kony grind the espresso, and get another grinder for drip and the like. The burrs are easy to access for cleaning, and calibrating them afterward is simple, too. If the Kony seems a bit small for use in your cafe, consider the supreme Royal; for home, the Mini or Mini P both feature a doser and small footprint.

  • Infinite Grind Settings

The Mazzer Kony is a stepless grinder, meaning you can make adjustments in increments of your choosing, rather than a limited, factory-designated amount. This is ideal for dialing in your grind for better tasting shots of espresso on any prosumer machine it’s paired with. The Mini can grind for coarse brew methods, too, though we recommend using a separate grinder for those.

  • Time-Based Grinding

The Mazzer Kony is manual, and as such it’s a breeze to use. Turn the dial for up to sixty seconds of continuous grinding into the doser, which then dispenses a pre-portioned amount from 5.5 to 9 grams into your portafilter with the pull of the lever. This functionality is simple and easy to master in no time at all.

  • Automatic Grinding Cycle

The Mazzer Kony has an automatic grinding cycle that will start the grinder every twelve doses and stop the grinder when it reaches the desired amount. This ensures that there is always a supply of freshly ground espresso waiting and available for your customers, even at the busiest of times.

  • Large Capacity Hopper

The Mazzer Kony is outfitted with an extra large hopper for high volume brewing situations, whether at home or in a cafe. It’s made of a durable, clear plastic that holds up to 4 pounds of beans, and features a handy hopper stopper, which closes the hopper for easy removal. This is great for swapping out the beans, or getting access to the burrs for cleaning or calibration.
