At Whole Latte Love we host a contest annually to keep us warm during the chillier winter months and this recipe was one of our contenders. The savory, roasty character of coffee adds a depth and body to chili that accentuates the other flavors in a way only coffee can. If you enjoy a good chili, you need to give this recipe a try!
Cheyenne’s Darn Good Coffee Chili
Ingredients
- 2 jars Ragu Spaghetti Sauce
- 1 pack Bear Creek Darn Good Chili Mix
- 2 cans chili beans (do not drain)
- 1 can black beans (drain)
- 1 pack McCormick's chili powder
- 1 bag chopped green onions
- 2 lbs lean ground beef (90%)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee

Step 1
Brown the 2 lbs of ground beef, drain.
Step 2
Combine all ingredients together into a crockpot and cook on low for 5 hours, stirring occasionally. The amount of sugar you use may vary depending on your taste.
Step 3
Serve chili immediately with Fritos, cheddar cheese, and sour cream.
For the coffee, it might be easiest to go with whatever you have on hand, but it’s an ingredient worth considering. Certain offer more chocolaty notes, while others may be fruitier or spicier. For a sweeter, more savory chili like this one, we recommend something with more prominent chocolate notes.
