Coffee Chili

Making It With MaryAnn & Cheyenne

Have you ever entered a chili cook off? Around here they’re something of a tradition, and this year Cheyenne and I joined forces to get a leg up on the competition. She had a secret weapon (her grandmother’s recipe!) and we decided to add some coffee to it for an extra kick.

Here’s what the chili calls for:

  • 2 jars of Ragu Spaghetti Sauce
  • 1 pack of Bear Creek Darn Good Chili Mix
  • 2 cans of chili beans (do not drain)
  • 1 can of black beans (drain)
  • 1 pack of McCormicks chili powder
  • 1 bag of green onions cut up and put in
  • 2 lbs of lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • ½ tsp of lemon pepper
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • ½ cup of brewed coffee

Brown the 2 lbs of ground beef, drain, then mix all ingredients together into a crockpot. Cook on low for 5 hours, stirring occasionally. The amount of sugar you use may vary depending on your taste.

We decided to go with a bold coffee to make sure the taste was strong enough. We wound up using Kimbo Premium brewed as drip. It was a first place finish!
