After years of reliable service, my Silvia started leaking when I run shots. Clear water comes out around the portafilter and I get water on the counter under the machine. The grouphead gasket is new and its replacement did not alter the leak in any way. The boiler does not appear to be leaking (this would happen even when not brewing, I assume). Possibly a problem with a solenoid? What is between the boiler and the grouphead that may be leaking? Is this a user-servicable problem? Is it time to retire the machine (how much would it cost to have professionally repaired? Although, if a pro can fix it, why not I??)
If wate ris leaking from around portafilter, odds are still fairly good that the leak is due to an issue surrounding the gasket, or an accumulation of some debris around it (such that the new gasket can't make a good seal the entire way around). An easy way to rule out the source would be to remove the lid and front-panel trim from the machine (four screws on top, two on the front) and give it a closer inspection while brewing. You could also try removing the gasket and scraping/scrubbing the area to clear it of any built-up gunk.
