ECM Synchronika with Flow Control Overview

ECM is all about a kind of refinement that beautifies the little things and strengthens an already top-notch machine. We're happy to say the ECM Synchronika has been a credit to their mission of innovation ever since it arrived on the market, and it's only gotten better over the years.

Features and Performance

The upgraded PID and discreet improvements really elevate what you can do with an espresso machine, and the added Flow Control device allows you to adjust the flow of water in your brew group to manually profile your extractions. Now more than ever, you can expect to really unlock the nuances hidden within your coffee, and with 2 bar of steam power at your disposal you can get the most out of your lattes and cappuccinos.

The Synchronika's Fast Heat Up is a unique heating cycle that overheats the boiler so that it reaches brew temperatures even faster. After a cooling flush, the super-hot water brings the group head and portafilter to temperature which helps to ensure optimal temperature stability.

Less obvious advantages can be found in the iconic E61 brew group, which ECM has updated with stainless-steel internal components, as well as a single top cap for a cleaner aesthetic that other machines lack. These stainless-steel internals add much greater durability and resistance to calcium build-up for more straightforward maintenance, streamlining the experience of owning an espresso machine overall.

When plumbed in, you can take advantage of longer, low-pressure pre-infusion to bring out the more unique flavor notes in specialty coffee. While this isn't unique to the Synchronika, not many machines can do this.

Why You Should Get It

When paired with the proper grinder, the ECM Synchronika has pulled shots for us that compare with some of our best local cafes. The subtleties in technical improvement and ECM’s nuanced innovation shine in the Synchronika, making it one of the best-equipped prosumer machines on the market.

  • Dual-Boiler

The independent, insulated stainless-steel boilers provide stable temperatures and allow you to change your brew temperatures to get the best flavor out of your coffee. You can brew and steam at the same time, as well. This is invaluable for everyone who likes making specialty drinks or for entertaining guests.

  • PID Controller

Control boiler temperature for searching out those elusive coffee flavors. The integrated shot timer compliments this by giving you a live readout of how long you’ve been pulling your shot. With the upgraded PID, the Synchronika can reach an industry-leading 2 bar of pressure.

  • Fast Heat Up

The Synchronika features Profitec's Fast Heat Up programming, a unique heating cycle. When powering on, if the temperature in the boiler is 104° F or lower, the boiler will begin heating to 266°F and the PID will display "UP." A "FLU" message will display when it's time to flush. On E61 machines like the Synchronika, the flush takes roughly 20 seconds and will have the boiler, group, and portafilter at brew ready temperature in 11 minutes.

  • Flow Control

This iteration of the ECM Synchronika comes equipped with a Flow Control device, allowing you to directly control the flow rate of your extraction. This flow profiling offers an extra layer of experimentation that can unlock the potential of your brew.
