Our rebuilt machines were entirely dismantled, cleaned and extensively rebuilt. The whole boiler assembly and all of the copper tubing was removed and thoroughly descaled. We then rebuilt the boiler, brew group, pump assembly and valves, cleaning, replacing and lubricating parts as necessary. Our entire process is described in detail below.
The rebuilt machines include the following accessories: a portafilter, single and double filter baskets, a backflush disc, tamper, coffee scoop, and a large particle filter.
Our rebuilt espresso machines are covered by a 1-year parts and labor warranty.
From stability to adjustability, the Brewtus I’s temperature reliably stable even today. This is because we worked with Expobar to develop a list of features the machine had to have, including a double boiler system (both with auto refill) each with their own powerful heating elements, a red digital temperature control that’s right on the front of the machine for easy use, the iconic E61 brew group, a commercial caliber chrome-plated 58mm portafilter, and adjustable brewing pressure that can be monitored through the new pressure gauge. These features, combined with Expobar’s already exceedingly high standards and dedication to craftsmanship, result in a prosumer machine that performs exactly how our customers have requested.
Along those lines, the Brewtus I also has a super-sized 90-ounce removable reservoir – complete with low water sensor – so you never run dry or burn out the heating elements. It also has a large removable drip tray that can hold up to 64 ounces of liquid before it needs to be emptied. On the top of the machine is a stainless steel passive cup warmer, which is also removable for access to the reservoir and for cleaning. The Brewtus I also features a freewheeling stainless steel steam wand and a fully pivotal stainless steel hot water wand, each activated by their own dedicated hard black plastic star-shaped knobs. To top it all off, the Brewtus I’s brewing pressure can be adjusted using a knob that can be accessed by removing the drip tray.
The Brewtus I is also a handsome machine, with traditional styling, as is the case with the entire Expobar line. It is encased completely in polished stainless steel, and will make a striking impression on any countertop. It’s heavy too; in fact it’s a walloping 61 pounds. What else would you expect from a machine that’s got so much muscle packed onto it? It’s the perfect little powerhouse for any home or small office environment.
The Brewtus I includes a tamper, single shot filter basket, double shot filter basket, backflush disc and a 7 gram coffee scoop.
Please Note: Regulations for commercial use vary between states. Be aware of your local requirements. Machines carrying an NSF approval are labeled as such. Please visit our policies page for warranty information.
The Expobar Brewtus I is shiny and sleek. Its traditional design is housed in polished heavy-duty stainless steel housing. The cup warmer, drip tray and drip tray cover are also stainless steel to match. And the chrome plated brass brew group blend perfectly with the rest of the machine. All this needs to be held up by a very strong frame, and the Brewtus I's frame is just that. It is constructed of a heavy gauge stainless steel, which contributes to the machine’s hefty 61 pounds.
Each boiler is complete with a dedicated 975-watt heating unit, which makes it possible for them to run at their respective temperatures with precision. Two boilers means there’s no switching boiler temperatures as you go back and forth between steaming and brewing. Double boilers also make it possible to brew and steam at the same time, which is perfect if you’re making a few drinks at once. Because the boilers are so large and automatically draw water from the reservoir, you eliminate any wait time between shots.
Now, you would think all that power would put a drain on your electric system, but we’ve even taken that into consideration and designed the Brewtus I to work off a standard 15-amp household breaker.
In keeping with the Brewtus I's focus on unwavering temperature stability, this machine features the E61 brew group – the industry’s best. Made of solid chrome-plated brass, this entire assembly is revered worldwide for its ability to retain heat at an absolutely consistent temperature. Locking into the group head is a heavy chrome-plated brass 58mm portafilter, which hold the stainless steel filter baskets tamped with coffee. The Brewtus I comes with two filter baskets – a single shot and a double shot. You can also order a special filter basket that holds pods if you prefer to use pods to brew your espresso.
Completing the brew group is the 3-way valve which operates off a manual lever on the front of the Brewtus I. This allows you to control the initiation of the brewing process and the depressurization process yourself.
The Brewtus I features a PID for rock-steady temperature stability, adjustable to your preference or for when you want to extract the full complexity of high-altitude coffees. The PID also eliminates the need to temperature surf or guess at the proper temperature.
The Brewtus I's portafilter is commercially designed and made of chrome-plated brass, which is ideal for temperature stability throughout the critical end stages of the brewing process. It is a dual spout, 58mm portafilter that weighs in at a hefty 22 ounces, and comes with two filter baskets – a single shot and a double shot.
The brewing system provides a smoother delivery of pressure than many machines in its class. This makes it possible to perform what is the equivalent to pre-infusion, which is a moistening of the grinds before the full force of water comes through them. This is important because it prevents the water from “channeling” through the grinds and therefore not getting the maximum flavor and aroma out of them.
There are only two controls on the Brewtus. The main power switch is located on the upper left and a big manual lever to the right operates the brewing process and 3-way valve. The main power switch is a lighted rocker switch – when the machine is turned on it glows red, and the boilers immediately start to heat up. When the pressure gauge reaches 1 bar of pressure, you are ready to brew. The only control you will need to operate is the lever that is located just to the right of the brew group.
The Brewtus I's brewing pressure can be monitored using the corresponding pressure gauge on the front of the machine. The brewing pressure can also be adjusted using a knob that can be accessed by removing the drip tray.
The steam boiler temperature/pressure is controlled through a pressure controller. It senses the pressure in the boiler and turns on the heating element in the boiler as the pressure drops. You can visually see the boiler pressure through a pressure gauge on the front of the machine.
The Expobar Brewtus I has a separate stainless steel hot water dispenser. Mounted on a ball joint, the dispenser swivels in all directions giving you easy access. Just turn the black knob above it and you’ll have all the hot water you’ll need for Americanos, tea or cocoa.
The steam wand is also made of stainless steel and is mounted on a ball joint. While this is nice for access, it also makes it easy to use when you want to froth. Plus, the interior of the steam wand is lined with Teflon so you don’t burn your fingers when using it. The steam wand’s tip is a commercial one-hole model. This is great for steaming or frothing 8 ounces of milk at a time.
The 90 oz plastic reservoir is easily removed or refilled from the top of the Brewtus I. Tucked inside the machine to the left, simply lift the cup warmer to get to it.
The Brewtus I has a low water sensor mounted under the water reservoir. It operates similar to a scale. If it notices the reservoir feels too light, it will turn off all power to the boiler because that means the water level is too low.
The \"Electronic Boiler Refill Control" is the brain of the machine. It uses probes mounted inside the boiler and on the base plate below the reservoir to sense the water level. It uses this information to control the operation of the pump for refilling the boiler when necessary. It will also turn the boilers off for safety if the reservoir or boilers run out of water.
Warm your cups on the passive cup warmer that takes up the entire top of the machine. Because it’s warmed by the heat that’s given off from both boilers, it will keep all your cups extremely toasty. Some passive cup warmers have “cool spots” where the heat from the boilers can’t reach. But the Brewtus I's double boiler system completely eliminates this. And the cup grate is made of stainless steel to conduct the heat evenly across the surface, adding to a uniform temperature. It is removable for easy cleaning or access to the reservoir.
