Chocolate Banana Coffee Smoothie

Let's Try Something New

Hello, Whole Latte Lovers. You may have noticed I am the experimental-drink-concoction blogger of the group. I’ll try just about any iced coffee drink to see how it tastes. Today, I have a successful new drink to report and share with you. It’s a bit different and would probably be categorized as a smoothie.

Here’s the ingredients:

  • 1 long double shot of espresso - between 3 and 4 ounces(use your taste preference on this)
  • 1 ounce of Ghirardelli Sweet Ground Chocolate Powder
  • 2 ounces of half-and-half (I use the Fat Free variety, but this is also interchangeable to your tastes)
  • 2 ounces of 1% Milk (or any variety of milk you prefer of course…)
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 1 banana, broken into chunks


Place the ice cubes into your blender and pour the Ghirardelli powder over the cubes. Then, pour the milk and half- and-half over the powder, so it can start dissolving while you brew. Place the banana chunks over the mixture. Brew your shots, however you want it brewed, and pour the espresso over the other ingredients. Blend to a smooth mix, making sure you get the ice well chopped.

This is a different kind of recipe; There will be a mild fruit-flavored edge to your espresso drink, but it doesn’t outright overpower it. You can always add some chocolate syrup, whipped cream, or whatever you’d like to augment the drink with. I’m weighing in with a positive reaction. A little potassium added to your morning drink is always good too.
