Learn how to prepare your machine for a period of storage, disuse, or what to do prior to shipping your machine.
Whenever you're going to put the machine in storage, or the machine is being shipped somewhere, there are a few main things to remember
Drain the boiler
Set the machine to steaming
Wand or carafe is just fine (but not milk is needed)
Let it go until nothing comes out of the wand.
Once nothing is coming out of the wand, you're good to go!
The Steam Out Procedure will also drain your boiler and perform a hard reset. See the article on your machine below for more information:

The boilers do not hold much water at a time, so it’s generally a quick process.
You may need to trick the water sensor in your reservoir area with a bare hand in order to get the machine to continue to operate without the reservoir in place.
See the force priming instructions below if needed.
Draining the boiler serves a few purposes. For storage, it will ensure that you’re not having that water create scale buildup in your boiler as it sits idly and that it will not freeze which could end up rupturing the boiler. For shipping the machine, these steps are equally important. It will also make the machine as light as possible. When you take it out of storage, I'd recommend running through the descale process just to make sure everything is clean and ready.

It will depend on your machine just which steps may be necessary before using the machine after storage or shipping.
Run the initial priming process as described in the manual for the Initial Setup and First Use

It may be necessary to perform a Force Prime to get water back into the system.
Cleaning the Brew Unit and brew unit area before or after and relubricating before use is also recommended:
