The drip tray hanging off the counter can make the machine unstable and cause carafe connection codes.The two prongs on the carafe spout is how the machine knows if the carafe is attached.The Hot Water Spout will only have one prong.You can also go into the Tech Menu to mechanically test the sensor.Do not force parts into place. If the hot water spout or carafe will not seat easily, stop and inspect the clips, tabs, and the Teflon tube alignment. Forcing insertion can break the plastic locking features or bend the Teflon tube.Be gentle around the Teflon tube. If the tube is bent or unsupported (missing brass insert), inserting attachments can bend it further and prevent proper locking. A bent tube may require professional repair.Use extra care with small plastic tabs. Broken nubs, guide pegs, and the drip tray locking tab can prevent proper latching and may cause attachments to pop out and cancel a brewing cycle. Ensure the machine is fully on the counter. The drip tray hanging off the counter can make the machine unstable and cause carafe connection codes.Before inserting the milk carafe, swing the carafe arm outward.If the arm is left forward, the carafe can hit the machine housing and will not insert correctly.With the arm swung out, insert the carafe and confirm it seats and locks normally.Remove the hot water spout and inspect the two locking clips, one on each side of the spout.If either clip is cracked or broken, the spout may lock on one side but pop out on the other. Replace the hot water spout assembly if a clip is broken.Look at the small guide pegs on either side of the connection area (where the spout inserts).Confirm the pegs are not broken, since they help guide the spout into position and support a secure fit.Inspect the Teflon tube at the connection point where the hot water spout or carafe inserts.Check for bending or misalignment that could prevent the attachment from lining up and locking in.Look for the brass insert inside the tube (it supports the tube so it stays sturdy). If the insert is missing or installed incorrectly, the tube can flex and interfere with installation.If the tube is slightly bent, you may be able to straighten it, but it may bend again. If it will not stay aligned, the machine may need repair so the internal Teflon tube can be replaced.Inspect the milk carafe and confirm the small nubs on each side are not broken.If these nubs are damaged, the carafe may not lock in securely.Check the plastic locking tab on the drip tray.If the tab is broken off or partially broken, the carafe may not lock onto the notch at the bottom of the tank and may pop out during use.If the carafe pops out, the machine may cancel the brewing cycle because it no longer detects the carafe as installed.Understand how detection works: the machine uses two switches (sensors) in the back of the connection area.The hot water spout activates one switch.
