I have to admit, I’m a sucker for brands who put a little more time into aesthetically appealing designs—it’s the little things. I’ve been eyeing the Bezzera Matrix MN for the past couple of months and couldn’t resist the attention to detail on this semi-automatic machine. The stainless steel housing, the wood accents, and the ambiance of the colors really bring out the best in a barista when brewing and steaming for espresso and milk-based beverages.
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room, the LED lights!
There is no other machine on the market like the Bezzera Matrix MN that lets you choose from three different colors to truly personalize your brewing experience. In the settings, users can choose from Red, Green, and Blue LED lights or can choose more than one color at once for different color combinations. If you’re hosting for a couple of friends or a family gathering, the Matrix MN knows how to make a statement and set the stage with the right lighting.
Here’s another aspect that I love about Bezzera machines; it’s made in-house. Not in a foreign factory, but at the location of the company where all of Bezzera’s machines are designed and manufactured. You know you’re getting the best quality materials from Bezzera and the labor and design are thoughtfully constructed on this semi-automatic machine.
Nuts & Bolts
The Matrix MN is a dual boiler, PID manual machine with an E61 brew group that is constantly heated thanks to the thermosyphon system. The water from the boiler circulates through the brew group ensuring that things stay nice and hot when you go to brew your espresso. Because it’s a manual brew group you can start and stop brewing by simply using the lever next to the grouphead.
The Matrix MN is both plummable and reservoir-capable, so there is an option if you don’t want to worry about periodically refilling the reservoir.
Functionality
Besides aesthetics, the Matrix MN is equipped with an automated pre-infusion cycle that can be programmed to your liking whether you’d like a shorter or longer pre-infusion. You can also regulate the steam boiler temperature up to 266 °F on the Matrix MN and the brew temperature up to 204 °F.
Speaking of boilers, you can brew and steam on this dual boiler machine simultaneously with no wait time. Preparing your espresso and milk at the same time allows you to layer your beverages easily and enjoy them while they’re still hot.
Intuitive programming isn’t just reserved for super-automatic machines, the Bezzer Matrix MN has an intuitive 3.5” touchscreen display on the face of the machine where you can access the boiler temperatures and the internal menu where you can program maintenance alerts, switch between the reservoir and plumbed modes and more.
Final Thoughts
Bezzera’s Matrix MN is a unique dual boiler semi-automatic with dual PIDs. Not only is it made with high-quality material in the company factory, the programmability and functionality on this machine also lets you take control over your espresso and milk-based beverages so that you can brew cafe-quality beverages just how you like it.
