Nuova Simonelli: Prosumer Powerhouse
We’ve been carrying the Nuova Simonelli Oscar and Nuova Simonelli Musica for a few months at Whole Latte Love, and it's time to give these powerful machines some recognition. For starters, both machines are NSF certified for commercial use. If you ask me, it's easy to see why both the Oscar and the Musica are found in thousands of kitchens and coffee shops throughout the country.
Both the Oscar and the Musica come complete with single and double spout portafilters. Especially nice is the 10 degree angled double spout portafilter that makes tamping a breeze. With enormous power from their 2.5 liter boiler, commercial grade parts all around and NSF certification for use at home, or in a cafe, it's not hard to see why the Nuova Simonelli machines are some of the strongest machines in the Prosumer marketplace.
Nuova Simonelli Oscar
This machine utilizes commercial grade parts and operates using the same powerful 2.5 liter heat exchange boiler system as the Musica. This allows both home users and baristas, the ability to brew a shot of espresso while steaming milk at the same time. All the while, the electronically operated E-61 group head ensures excellent temperature stability throughout the brewing process.
Although the Oscar does not have programmable controls and lacks the pressure gauge found on the Musica, the build quality and espresso quality from the Oscar is still on par thanks to the machines sharing many of the same internal components. The Oscar is the nuts and bolts machine in the Nuova Simonelli line and is offered both as the Oscar Pour Over (with water reservoir) in red and black, or as the Oscar Direct Connect (plumbed water line) in black. If you're a user who prefers a no frills approach to things, the Oscar is an outstanding choice.
Nuova Simonelli Musica
Now, some of you might be thinking you'd like a machine with everything; you want the bells and whistles and then some. If that’s the case the machine for you would be the Nuova Simonelli Musica. Like the Oscar, the Musica comes in both a Pour Over model (Pour Over or Lux Pour Over) with water reservoir and a Direct Connect model (Direct or Lux Direct) that can be connected to a water line.
The Musica utilizes the same commercial grade parts, 2.5 liter heat exchange boiler system, and electronically controlled E61 group head that the Oscar does but it introduces volumetric controls for both single and double shot brewing. I’d still have to say though that my favorite feature is the pressure-stat access directly on the front of the machine, allowing for pressure adjustments without spending 25 minutes opening up the unit.
In addition to its performance, the Nuova Simonelli Musica is gorgeous to look at. You certainly will be proud to have company over and show off your latest toy if you decide the Musica is the machine for you, especially if you opt for the Lux version which comes complete with LED accent lighting that really makes it stand out from the crowd.
