Gaggia Accademia (2022): Pump Test and Ventilation Instructions
Learn how to perform a pump test, how to diagnose flow issues, and what to do when getting poor flow and/or pressure from the pre-2022 Gaggia Accademia.
Gaggia Accademia: Tech Menu
Ignore the portion about the steam out process. For pump testing or ventilation purposes, you can do the following:
- Turn the page selection knob to the right to Page 4
- Tapping any square on the screen will activate or deactivate
- Check out your p/s reading as the pump runs
- Select different EV settings to change where the water will dispense
- To ventilate and improve flow rather than testing, set water to dispense from your steam wand until you get a steady flow
- If you have water dispensing somewhere (even if it’s just filling up the internal drip tray) but a reading of zero, you have a flow meter issue
- For flow meter issues, see the Manual Descaling Information beneath the Hydraulic Circuit information

Manual Descaling Procedure
-
Run a full tank of descaling solution and water in through the various EV settings to make sure you’re getting some solution down all of the pathways.
-
See the above video to get into the tech menu
-
Page 4 - Hydraulic Menu (see diagram below for more information)
-
BOILER heats the boiler
-
PUMP sends water somewhere based on EV settings
-
Each EV button changes where the water will dispense
-
Allow the machine to sit for at least half an hour with the solution in the system.
-
Be sure to rinse out your reservoir before refilling
-
Rinse through with at least 2 reservoirs full of clean water changing the EV settings as you did when running the solution into the system.
Alternatively, you can follow up the manual descaling process with the automated descaling process. If you only use clean water and no more descaling solution for the automated process, this will thoroughly rinse all of the water pathways for you.
