Gaggia Anima: No Beans Error and Firmware Update

Our article on Grinder Cleaning and Recalibration will be the place to start with the No Beans Error, as well as other grinder issues. On rare occasions, those steps will not resolve the constant "No Beans" alarm. In this scenario, there is likely a sensitivity issue in the algorithm and a firmware update would be required to completely resolve the issue.


How to Resolve a Continuous No Beans Error

  1. After cleaning and reassembly, set your grinder knob to the coarsest setting
  2. Reset the machine using "Factory Reset" from your machine's main menu
  3. A hard reset will clear out any settings, profiles, and Auto Learning Dose information for the grinder allowing for recalibration
  4. If the main menu cannot be accessed due to machine issues, the steam out performs the same type of reset. 
  5. The error may still display after the cleaning and reset
  6. Error should decrease in frequency until ultimately resolving
  7. May take up to 20 successful extractions for error to resolve
  8. Shots do not need to be run consecutively, keep setting coarse
  9. One notch finer as the grinder runs is the recommended grinder adjustment method after issue resolves
  10. Grinder replacement WILL NOT resolve the issue if the cleaning does not work
  11. A firmware update can ONLY BE performed at an authorized repair location. For US customers, that repair center is in Rochester, NY
  12. A repair for the entire machine can be set up, or the power board from your machine can be sent in separately.
