This video covers identifying the leak source, removing and installing the door's interior rear panel, replacing the internal drip tray water level sensor, replacing a broken internal spout, and rebuilding the door spout assembly including the flow control (SPS) unit and O-rings. Topics covered also include proper exterior spout alignment to prevent leaks. These issues and part locations will be the same between the Accademia and Babila machines.

Gaggia Babila: How to Fix Door Issues, Leaks, Sensors, and Spouts

The first step in addressing any leaking or excess water problems is to make sure the spout is aligned properly on the front of the machine. If the dispensing spout is improperly positioned, the machine will leak from the bottom of the door, because water/coffee will be forced into the inside of the door. This can cause damage to electronics that are contained within the door, and will also result in leaking from the bottom. The dispensing spout should be flush with the very front of the square arm that it slides onto. The spout can also be fully pushed in or removed entirely, but anywhere in between fully pushed in and flush can cause problems.

With the spout properly aligned or removed, run a blank shot. This means setting your aroma strength to the scoop setting, not putting any ground coffee in the bypass chute, and brewing a beverage. I'd recommend a lungo or long coffee as this will allow for the largest amount of water for rinsing purposes. As the water dispenses, spin the knob from side to side and this should break up any buildup there. Be sure the Brew Unit has been thoroughly cleaned and relubricated, and check the brew unit and Boiler Spout o-rings.
