Gaggia Super Automatic Espresso Machines: Power Issues
Learn the most common cause and solution for no power on all Gaggia Super Automatic Espresso Machines
With power issues, there is not a ton of troubleshooting that can be done. Power issues can be caused by a variety of parts or wiring internally, so determining the cause at home is difficult. If there is a problem with internal components, wiring, or the power board, a repair is recommended.
There ARE some basic things to check to ensure everything is properly connected:
- It can take a surprising amount of force to get the CORD FULLY INSERTED into the BACK OF THE MACHINE. This is the number one cause of suspected power issues. So as silly as it sounds, it really is worth double checking. This applies to ANY GAGGIA SUPER AUTOMATIC ESPRESSO MACHINE.
- Confirm the switch on the back of the machine is in the on positon. Not all machines will have a switch on the back, so skip this step if it does not apply.
- Try different outlets ensuring the machine is plugged directly into the wall and is not plugged in to an extension cord or surge protector. Most extension cords and surge protectors will not be able to handle the power supply which may cause very dangerous electrical issues or fire hazards.
- The power cord is a standard cord used by many electronics and appliances. If you suspect the cord is the issue, try one that you know to be functional.
- Whenever possible, isolate the machine to its own circuit in your home. If not possible, make sure it does not share a circuit with other major appliances or electronics like a microwave.
*PLEASE NOTE* that if the machine seems to randomly power down, or powers down if it is moved, the most likely cause will be how the power cord is attached to the machine. The easiest way to get it in there securely is to give the machine a bear hug so you can use both hands to push it in without pulling the machine out and moving it around. Moving the machine can cause the plug to wiggle out a little bit at a time. The cord becoming disconnected is not a problem with the machine or cord, it will just need to be reseated.
