It is important to note that a small amount of steam coming from the vents on the left side of the machine is completely normal. However, if the amount of steam you are seeing is equal to or greater than the amount coming from the wand, or the steam is coming out of the top of the machine near the bypass door, this article will show you how to resolve this. Gaggia Accademia (2022): Excess Steam From the Top or Side of the Machine If the steam is not making it out of either the steam wand OR into the carafe, there is likely a problem somewhere along the water pathway. Descaling is a good thing to do in this case. If it was either the wand OR the carafe connection point that wasn't steaming properly, the blockage may be in one of those parts specifically, but for both, the problem is likely a bit before it makes it to either of those end points.
