Learn some common sources for leaks on your machine and how to prevent them from occurring, or what to do when you notice the leak.

What to look for when you have a leak:

  • Does the machine leak while not in use?
    • If the machine leaks while not in use, you may just need to ensure the reservoir is fully seated. Remove the reservoir and ensure nothing is underneath preventing it from fully seating in the machine.
    • If the leak ONLY happens during operation, try to determine when it happens, where you see the leak, and if it is clear water or coffee colored. A coffee colored leak is likely happening after the water makes it to the brew unit, but before it can make it out of the dispensing spouts, for example.
  • Leaking underneath or on the right side of the machine are the most likely locations for leaks to occur.
    • Check the drip tray and make sure it is not overfilling or damaged.
    • Water may slosh out as the tray is removed if overly full.
    • It in normal to see water collect in the drip tray during operation.
    • Buildup in the brew unit area can prevent the water from draining to the drip tray properly, resulting in a leak on the right side of the machine.
  • Leaking or uneven flow from your coffee dispenser may mean buildup or damage to the spout. See our article on addressing the Dispensing Spout.
  • Leaking or dripping from the steam wand (or carafe connection point for the Prestige). See our article on addressing the Internal Water Pathway.
