Manual Gaggia Coffee Clean Tablet Cleaning Method

Most Gaggia machines will have an automated process for using the Gaggia Coffee Clean Tablets right in the machine's main menu or cleaning menu. The process below can be used if your machine does not have this option, or if the option is not working as expected.

How to Clean the Brew Group (or Brew Unit) with Gaggia Coffee Clean Tablets

1. Place a container under the coffee dispensing spout.
2. Clean out the coffee dump box prior to use. In case the tablet does not fully dissolve on the first rinse, it can be easily retrieved.
3. Press the AROMA STRENGTH button and select pre-ground coffee (scoop).
4. Insert a tablet into the bypass chute in the bean hopper.
5. Select ESPRESSO LUNGO (or long coffee) to begin dispensing.
6. When the brewing progress bar reaches halfway, use the switch on the back of the machine to power off, or unplug if the switch is not applicable.
7. Allow the solution to work inside the machine for 15 minutes while powered down.
8. Power the machine back on with the switch or cord. Press the stand-by button again if necessary to fully power on the machine.
9. Wait for the machine to perform an automatic rinse cycle.
10. Manually clean the brew unit: Brew Unit Maintenance
11. Remove the drip tray and dump box to empty and reinsert.
12. Press the AROMA STRENGTH button and select pre-ground coffee as previously.
13. Press the ESPRESSO LUNGO button.
14. Allow water to dispense, and empty tray or container as needed.
15. Repeat steps 11 and 12 at least 2 times to fully rinse the cleaning solution from the machine.
