Gaggia Accademia: How to Replace the Blowdown Valve
The updated 2022 version of the Accademia DOES NOT have a blowdown valve. This information only pertains to pre-2022 Gaggia Accademia machines. Consult the label inside the front door of your machine for the production year if you are unsure. A leak happening towards the left or back of the machine during operation will likely indicate a problem with the blowdown valve. A leak to the blowdown valve can cause flow and priming problems in your machine as well as the visible leak. It can be that the leak from the blowdown valve will get into the flowmeter and damage that part as well. This can cause the machine to think there is a flow problem even if the flow is working just fine and water is dispensing. The valve is not an easy part to replace, but it can be done at home if you're pretty handy. The video below will go over the process:
