Milk Carafe Issues
What to Know About Carafe Frothing Issues:
-
The carafes are intended for 2% or whole dairy milk
- Other milks can be used, but the volumes dispensed may vary
- Sweetened milks are not recommended as they cause buildup more quickly
- Shelf stable milks are just fine to use but generally do not froth well due to the change in the milk proteins
-
The steaming is based on time rather than sensing the temperature.
- If the frothing results are consistent, the carafe is likely operating as expected
- The carafe is designed to raise the starting temperature consistently. To test your carafe, test the start and end temperatures of your milk.
- For the most control, use the steam wand for milk beverages
- Blockages or improper connections somewhere inside of the carafe will be the cause of most carafe issues
-
Disassembly for inspection and cleaning is recommended on a weekly basis
- Quick rinses and monthly deep cleanings should be performed as prompted, but do not replace manual cleaning
- Running the automated carafe cleaning cycle with Urnex Rinza Milk Frother Cleaner 32 oz and descaling the machine can also help make sure that the connection point is getting the appropriate amount of steam to your carafe in order for the carafe to operate properly. This is a menu option on the Magenta, but not the Anima.
How to Clean and Maintain Gaggia Anima and Magenta Milk Carafes:

If the opaque tube from your carafe connection point is clogged or seems damaged, that may be an issue as well. If you are getting steam to the carafe, but cleaning hasn't improved the results, the carafe will need to be replaced.
