Profitec Pro 700: Drain the Boilers

This guide shows multiple ways to safely drain both boilers on the Profitec Pro 700—covering newer machines with built-in drain ports and older units without them. You’ll learn fast “no-disassembly” options, how to use the coffee-boiler mushroom to drain older models, how to empty the steam boiler using the hot-water tap when heated, and a cold-machine workaround.Beginner–Intermediate. If you can remove a few screws, use an adjustable wrench/hex keys, and safely tip the machine to pour out water, you’ll be fine. A cup or hose is neater.Steam Boiler (bottom drain plug)Remove the bottom cover plate (typically four 3 mm screws).Position a catch pan or towels.Remove the 6 mm hex drain plug at the steam-boiler bottom and allow water to dump out.Reinstall the plug and the cover plate.Mess Alert: This method drains fast—have towels ready. Do not remove the plug unless you’re ready to catch/contain water.Coffee Boiler via the E61 MushroomWith the machine cold and unplugged, place towels below the group.Hold the E61 firmly; use an adjustable wrench to loosen and remove the mushroom.Expect initial water at the group—this is normal.Carry the machine to a sink.Stand at the sink edge, then carefully rock the machine forward so water exits through the E61.Hold for ~1 minute or until the flow stops.Return upright and reinstall the mushroom (snug—not over-tight).Tip: If the machine is heavy for you, get a helper before tipping.If plumbed-in: Shut off water and disconnect the water line so the boiler cannot refill.If using reservoir: Remove the reservoir, then set the source selector to plumbed/network so the machine will still run the pump without refilling from the tank.Allow the machine to fully heat.Open the hot-water tap and let it run until flow diminishes.Close the tap and power off.Why this works: Heated water exits quickly through the hot-water circuit, pulling most water from the steam boiler.Move the machine to the counter edge so the steam wand extends over the sink or a large cup.Optional: Unscrew and remove the steam-wand tip for less restriction/faster flow.Open the steam-valve fully.Carefully tip the machine onto its side so boiler water routes through the internal line to the steam tap.Hold until the flow slows/stops (can take a few minutes), then return upright and close the valve.Reinstall the steam-wand tip (if removed).Wipe any spills, reinstall any plugs/covers you removed, and ensure valves are closed.For shipping/storage, keep the machine upright and well-padded.Friendly Reminder: Some residual moisture inside lines is normal. The goal is to empty the boilers to prevent freeze damage and reduce weight.
