Grind-by-Weight Dosing
Coffee doses are ground by weight and can be programmed within 1/10th of a gram. If desired, the optional Portafilter Detection mode can be activated to automatically select a dose based on the portafilter used.
The Mahlkonig E64 WS is a weight-based home espresso grinder that incorporates the extreme precision of Grind-by-Sync technology. In a first for Mahlkonig, their patented Disc Distance Detection has been made available to home baristas, allowing for digital burr position measurement, measured in microns. With rapid speeds of 3g/sec, compact proportions and incredibly quiet grinding, the E64 WS is a perfect match for a wide range of prosumer espresso machines.Â
At its core, the E64 WS grinds with a set of 64mm flat steel burrs, optimized by Mahlkonig for rich and balanced shots of espresso. An adjustable portafilter holder and ball-joint mounted grinds chute ensure that coffee lands directly into your basket and the grinder can be programmed to recognize up to 10 unique portafilters when grinding by weight.
Minimum grinding speeds of 3g/sec are achieved thanks to the 200W motor, with options to grind manually, by time, and by weight. Weight-based grinding is programmable within 0.1g and you can program up three unique recipes to store and save your preferred settings. Recipes contain your desired dose or grinding time and your shot time and can be used in conjunction with the Grind-by-Sync technology to set your desired burr position as well.
The Grind-by-Sync functionality of the E64 WS allows the grinder to be connected to a compatible espresso machine from La Marzocco or Sanremo or the Mahlkonig Sync Scale. Grind-by-Sync connects the grinder to the espresso machine via Wifi or a wired cable. Shot time is communicated to the grinder from the machine and burr position is adjusted automatically as needed if the reported shot time is too fast or too slow. This feature guarantees consistent results regardless of who is grinding.
The following machines are compatible with Grind-by-Sync:
Strada S, KB90, Linea PB, Linea PB X, Linea Classic S, GB5 S, or GB5 X in AV or ABR configurations
Café Racer, F18 Multiboiler, F18 SB, D8 PRO, or D8 standard
Mahlkonig's Disc Distance Detection or DDD system is an automated burr positioning system that digitally tracks burr position and makes adjustments via a sensor controlled motor. Grind adjustment is accurate within 0.001mm and is tracked onscreen as μm.
When utilizing Grind-by-Sync, the burrs will adjust themselves automatically based on extraction data received from the machine. Even without the Sync System, DDD is incredibly useful for calibrating multiple grinders for the same coffee and simple zero-point calibration with a dedicated menu option to zero burrs as needed, such as when installing new burrs or after a deep clean of the grinder.
Navigation is clean and simple thanks to a clear thanks to the LED display with two selector buttons on the left side and a rotating knob/button on the right. The grinds chute is illuminated by and LED accent that can be customized with a variety of colors.Â
** The Mahlkonig E64 WS now ships with an additional metal flapper that can be inserted behind the silicone flapper at the grounds chute. This helps grounds fall clean into the portafilter with better accuracy. **
The Mahlkonig E64 WS leverages cutting edge commercial innovation to deliver one of the most sophisticated home grinding experiences to date. Precision, both of grind size and dose are possible with this grinder, and the application of Grind-by-Sync will only continue to grow as more manufacturers partner with Mahlkonig to make their machines compatible with this game changing technology.

Mahlkonig's Sync System connects the E64 WS to one of several compatible machines from La Marzocco and Sanremo or the Mahlkonig Sync Scale. Shot timing is communicated between the two for automatic adjustment of grind as needed.

Grind size is adjusted digitally via a motor and gears and tracked via µm. A pair of sensors track the cone shaft and motor position to enable grind adjustments with 0.001mm precision. Grind sizes can be assigned to recipes to easily set or reset burr position even across multiple grinders.

The E64 WS uses Mahlkonig's DDD (Disc Distance Detection) system to track burr position. Recalibrating the system is easy thanks to the dedicated calibration process that helps you find and reset the zero point of the burrs.
