Owning the Rocket Espresso R60V

The R60V from Rocket Espresso is a dual boiler PID machine chock full of innovative features and functionality. The R60V features a near-silent rotary pump, and the option to plumb for added convenience. Plus, not only can you control the temperature in the brew boiler using the removable PID controller, the R60V features programmable pressure profiling. Rather than brewing at a consistent 9 bars throughout the entire extraction, pressure profiling allows you to experiment with different pressures throughout the brew to fine tune your espresso machine to your favorite coffee. It comes preset with three different pressure profiles straight from the factory, each of which allow for five separate changes in pressure, and, of course, can each be programmed to your particular taste. The brew pressure can be monitored throughout the brew on the right side gauge, which peaks and dips along with each profile. This level of control is usually only available on commercial machines, but Rocket’s commitment to innovation led them to offer home barista’s the same functionality, too. We’ll admit, it’s not for everyone, but those who want absolute control and infinite room to play will love this feature. Another exciting element new to the R60V is smartphone compatibility. Take the controller out of the picture entirely and just use your phone to make adjustments to the PID, pressure presets, program on/off times, and toggle between reservoir and plumbed use. Satisfy your inner scientist with this impressive machine.

Just like on the rest of Rocket’s machines, the R60V features all the great aesthetic elements and commercial-grade components to ensure its reliability shot after shot. The no-burn steam and hot water wands hop to attention once either of their gear-like knobs are turned, with the steam pressure topping off at a powerful 1 bar for fast frothing. Rocket’s reimagined E61 group helps maintain temperature stability by syphoning hot water from the brew boiler, through the group, and back; and, it also aids in the extraction due to its integrated dual pre-infusion system which uses a static chamber and mechanical piston to progressively soak grounds. As always, Rocket’s branded stainless tamper, comprehensive full color manual, and several other goodies come standard. The R60V is the most innovative of Rocket’s offerings, and, we think it’s also the most fun to play with. If you’re not the type to experiment with pressure profiling and want a more traditional dual boiler machine, Rocket’s R58 features a dual PID, rotary pump, optional plumbability, and, we think it might be calling your name.
