58mm Flat Burr Upgrades for the Varia VS6 

The Varia VS6 is compatible with several flat burr upgrades, each of which improves heat resistance and durability when compared to the stock Supernovas that come installed on the grinder. They also feature distinct cutting geometries that change the brewed flavors of your coffee. While the smoother cutting surface of these burrs slows grinding somewhat, the result is a more consistent grind across the board. 

Supernova Gold Titanium

While designed primarily to be used for filter coffee, these 420 stainless steel burrs offer improved performance at espresso sizes too. They deliver sweet, juicy, clean shots of espresso with a well-rounded body, and a more balanced filter brews with enjoyable acidity, high clarity, and slight sweetness. 

Hypernova Iridescent Titanium

Designed to be suitable for all roasting profiles and brew methods, these burrs truly shine in the espresso range, offering increased performance when grinding fine. They’re made from titanium-coated 440 stainless steel with an edge hardness of HRC65. They deliver clean, juicy, sweet shots of espresso with medium body and filter brews with balanced acidity and sweetness. 

Kilonova DLC

Specifically designed to highlight subtle flavors in light-roasted coffees, these burrs are made from 440 stainless steel treated with a diamond-like carbon coating for an increased hardness rating between 64 and 66. Despite their light-roast specifications, the Kilonova burrs offer peak consistency across the full range of roast levels, except for super dark and oily beans.

Varia also makes a set of conical burr upgrades for the VS6. Whereas flat burrs are said to produce fewer fines, resulting in a cleaner cup, conical burrs produce more fines, which can help create the necessary restriction for brewing espresso. They also lead to more body, whether brewing espresso or filter coffee.
