Gaggia Classic Pro: Lined Boilers vs. Un-lined Boiler
Gaggia has begun replacing the lined boilers with unlined boilers on any EVO machines with a serial number beginning with TU902348 and higher. These machines will have an unlined boiler installed by Gaggia in Italy from production.
If you are noticing debris in the water supply, and your machine does not have a lined boiler, it can have to do with the water filter being used. Here are some things to check:

- If your water source has a filter, check if it needs to be replaced. Filters, especially carbon activated filters, can begin to release this type of debris into the water once it has past its life expectancy.
- Remove the lid with 2 Phillips head screws in the black funnel to make sure you don't have debris making it into your water supply from the top of the machine. Dust may accumulate over time or get into the machine during the packaging and shipping process.
- Flush out the boiler with some water from a source that is known to be free of contaminants.
- Debris on the grouphead side, rather than the steam side, will likely be coffee based. If that is the case, a Group Head Cleaning and Service is recommended.
- If the debris continues, the boiler will need to be taken apart for cleaning, or replacement if your boiler shows signs of pitting due to calcification.
Any Gaggia Classic or Classic Pro machine can also be converted to the brass boiler. Especially if you find the boiler needs replacing, this option may be worth considering. The same cleaning and descaling schedule is recommended for the brass boilers, but the increased capacity and improved material will lead to better temperature stability and performance in general. A link for the unlined aluminum boiler as well as the boiler gasket are included below as well. It would be the same gasket for either boiler and would need to be replaced if the boiler is opened up.Â
