If you have coffee shooting out from the spouts on your portafilter, don't stress: it's an easy fix. The most likely cause is that the pressurized basket is being used without the 2 way diffuser nozzle in place under the basket. Those parts are pictured below: The pin will generally come pre-installed under the basket in your portafilter. It is only needed for the pressurized basket, but it is okay to brew with it in place for the commercial style baskets. The pressurized basket will be the basket with the hole just in the middle rather than across the entire bottom. That little black pin will diffuse the stream to keep it from spraying wildly like that. The purpose of this basket is for brewing pre-ground coffee. It sort of takes the guess work out of dialing in a personal grinder and makes a pretty good extraction regardless of the grind of the coffee (within reason). If you'd prefer not to use that basket or pin, I'd recommend using the commercial style basket with holes all along the bottom and getting your personal grinder dialed in.
