Single-Boiler/Dual-Use
The Classika PID uses a 0.75 liter stainless steel boiler for both brewing and steaming. Expect warm up times of about 15 minutes until brew-ready. Steam is ready in just 40 seconds.
The ECM Classika PID had us curious out of the box. After a few quick tests, it had our attention. This high-performance semi-automatic comes equipped with tools we would normally expect of much larger prosumer machines that run for $2000 or more.
With a custom machined E61 group head and a PID controller, you can expect great temperature stability and the option to adjust brew temperature to bring out more subtle flavors in high-altitude coffee, as well as adjust steam temperature to get the steaming power you like. To complete your set of tools is the easily accessed pump pressure adjustment screw, which can be found beneath the cup tray.
The Classika's Fast Heat Up is a unique heating cycle that overheats the boiler so that it reaches brew temperatures even faster. After a cooling flush, the super-hot water brings the group head and portafilter to temperature which helps to ensure optimal temperature stability.
The Classika PID brews with a single 0.75 liter stainless steel boiler, which is an important consideration when it comes to capacity versus needs. the Classika PID is a single-boiler machine, you can pull shot after shot but you cannot brew and steam at the same time like you can with a heat exchanger machine.
You'll need to cool and fill the boiler after steaming but it is an easy process and doesn't take long. This makes the Classika PID good for espresso lovers who want perfectly crafted shots at greatly reduced cost and still have room on your counter for nice grinder.
The ECM Classika PID with Flow Control is one of the smallest espresso machines available with both an E61 group and PID temperature controller. The E61 group and PID controller afford much greater temperature stability for more consistent espresso shots, putting it ahead of other single-boiler espresso machines.
